Rajya Sabha Election 2024 live: Polls for UP, Himachal, Karnataka 15 seats today

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Live: Voting begins today for 15 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. The voting process will begin at 9am, with the House of Lords scheduled to start at 5pm. In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP fielded eight candidates, while the Samajwadi Party fielded three candidates for 10 Lok Sabha seats. The election of Sanjay Seth led to competition for one seat, even though the BJP had sufficient numbers to field seven members.

A candidate needs to get around 37 primary votes to win the Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

In Karnataka, the Congress moved all MLAs to a hotel ahead of the biennial elections to fill four seats. There are five candidates in the fray, including Ajay Maken, Syed Naseer Hussain and GC Chandrasekhar of the Congress, Narayansa Bandage of the BJP and Kupendra Reddy of the JD(S). Concerns about cross-polling were raised when both parties whipped their MLAs.

Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh, the Congress party has issued a whip to urge all its MLAs to vote for the party's candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The move was criticized by the Bharatiya Janata Party, which claimed that MPs have the right to vote as they wish.

Of the 56 Bundestag seats to be won today, 41 have secured their seats in the Family.

Number Theory: India's consumption spending numbers explained in 4 charts

Average consumer spending grew at the slowest pace between the 1999-2000 and 2004-05 Consumer Expenditure Survey.

The National Statistics Office (NSSO) published details of the Household Consumption Survey (HCES) 2022-23 on 24 February. The release of HCES results marks the end of an eleven-year drought in data usage in India. Since NSSO has not yet published the full report or grade data for HCES, a detailed analysis of the results is not possible. With this caveat in mind, we draw four important conclusions from the HCES data.
