HC dismisses plea for Kejriwal’s ‘extraordinary’ interim bail, slaps ₹75k fine

 

The court said the plea was not tenable as the petitioner, a law student who argued on behalf of "we the people of India", did not challenge the decision regarding Kejriwal's supervision. People are looking for "extraordinary" protection. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal granted "interim relief" to the petitioner while imposing a fine of Rs 75,000.

The court said the plea was not tenable as the petitioner, a law student arguing on behalf of "We the people of India", did not challenge the judicial system that held Kejriwal. He said that "temporary special permission" cannot be granted by competent courts in ongoing cases against senior officials.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora said: "This Court is of the view that this plea is unsustainable as Arvind Arvind Kejriwal is in judicial custody and has not yet been challenged. Allegations have been made that Kejriwal's safety cannot be ensured." The "criminals" accused in the case, who were in danger due to their involvement in torture, fraud, murder and bomb attacks, were left "together" in Tihar Prison. He spoke of Delhi's "headless style of governance". The claim also states that Kejriwal chose not to resign despite his arrest. According to reports, Kejriwal's government and the city administration were in trouble due to his absence.

Tihar jail counters AAP amid insulin row, says 'Arvind Kejriwal was assured best care of his Diabetes

 

Tihar Jail officials on Sunday said a senior doctor from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) had provided information from a video meeting to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister made the comment on Saturday upon the request of his wife Sunita Kejriwal, officials said.

"The video conference was organized by the Tihar jail warden on the request of Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal. Besides the hospital specialist, Tihar's medical staff also participated in the conference call, PTI reported.

"The insulin issue, however, was neither raised by Arvind Kejriwal nor suggested by the doctors during the video consultation," the Tihar Jail source was quoted as saying.

The Tihar Jail's statement came amid the row over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders' claim that there was no Diabetes Specialist in the jail.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh claimed "insulin is not being given to Arvind Kejriwal. If a diabetes patient is not given insulin on time, it becomes a question of life and death for them".

He alleged that this "is a conspiracy to kill" Kejriwal. "I believe the people of Delhi will give a fitting response for this crime on May 25 by voting," Singh added.
