Election Results 2024: The BJP-led NDA won 292 seats and prevailed over the Opposition alliance - INDIA, which bagged 232 seats. The BJP's Uttar Pradesh dominance, however, faced a tough challenge from the INDIA bloc. The contest between the BJP and INDIA bloc in the Lok Sabha polls is a reflection of a broader ideological battle.

Poll Pundits had predicted a third term for PM Narendra Modi. But the INDIA bloc has put up a strong fight, defying predictions.

The BJP's campaign was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The party's biggest star campaigner, PM Modi, participated in over 200 public meetings, including rallies and roadshows. The INDIA bloc's campaign featured joint rallies by Opposition leaders.

The counting of votes started at 8 am amid tight security. The counting of EVM votes started 30 minutes after the postal ballot count. This year's Lok Sabha election was the second-longest since India's first election in 1951-52. Any party or coalition needs a majority of 272 seats to form the government.

The Cabinet will meet tomorrow morning and the single agenda item is the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha. A note has been moved by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and with this, the stage is set for the formation of a new government.

President Droupadi Murmu will dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha once the cabinet recommendation is received. The President will then start the process of constituting the 18th Lok Sabha once the Election Commission submits the list of MPs to her.

The President will then call the single-largest party to form the government at the Centre.

In this case, the NDA will form a government and by convention prove its majority on the floor of the Lok Sabha within a month or less.

Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc is trying to reach out to like-minded parties and form a coalition government. It is also trying to woo NDA parties like Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu.

Hamas says it is ready for a 'complete agreement' if Israel stops war in Gaza

Smoke rises following an Israeli airstrike in Rafah, Gaza Strip

Hamas said on Thursday it had told mediators it would not take part in more negotiations during ongoing aggression but was ready for a "complete agreement" including an exchange of hostages and prisoners if Israel stopped the war.

Talks, mediated by among others Egypt and Qatar, to arrange a ceasefire between Israel and the Islamist movement in the Gaza war have repeatedly stalled with both sides blaming the other for the lack of progress.

The latest Hamas statement came as Israel pressed on with an offensive on the southern Gaza city of Rafah, despite an order by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the top U.N. court, to halt the attacks.

"Hamas and the Palestinian factions will not accept to be part of this policy by continuing (ceasefire) negotiations in light of the aggression, siege, starvation and genocide of our people", the Hamas statement read.

"Today, we informed the mediators of our clear position that if the occupation stops its war and aggression against our people in Gaza, our readiness (is) to reach a complete agreement that includes a comprehensive exchange deal," it added.  Israel has rejected earlier offer of Hamas as insufficient and said it is determined to wipe out a group bent on its destruction. It says its Rafah offensive is focused on rescuing hostages and rooting out Hamas fighters.

Nearly 36,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's offensive across all of Gaza, the health ministry there says. Israel launched the operation after Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israeli communities on Oct. 7 last year, killing around 1,200 people and seizing more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

MQ-9 B Drones: US, India Chart Out Final Deal For $3.9B Reapers

A delegation from the United States is currently in India to negotiate the potential acquisition of MQ-9B drones. These unmanned aerial vehicles, often hailed as the eyes and ears of modern warfare, have been the subject of intense deliberation, their capabilities and vulnerabilities scrutinized under the unforgiving lens of conflict zones.

Dear Readers

Despite concerns, India remains captivated by the potential of these airborne sentinels. The nation is considering the acquisition of 31 MQ-9B drones, which would cost a staggering 129 million/UAV.

Amidst the bustling streets of Delhi, a delegation from the United States finds itself immersed in intense negotiations with Indian officials. Their objective? To broker a monumental deal for the acquisition of the formidable MQ-9B drones by the Indian armed forces. This potential agreement, estimated to be worth a staggering $3.9 billion, hangs in the balance as intricate discussions surrounding technology sharing continue to unfold.

At the heart of these deliberations is a team representing the aerospace giant General Atomics, engaged in intricate talks centered around the procurement of 31 of these unmanned aerial behemoths.  The Indian Navy stands poised to receive 15 of these drones, bolstering its maritime surveillance and strike capabilities. The Indian Army and Air Force eagerly await the arrival of 8 drones each, fortifying their ability to monitor adversary activities along the contentious Line of Actual Control (LAC).

As retired Major General Ravinder Sanan, a seasoned veteran of the Indian Army’s Corps of EME, eloquently articulated, “It was in June 2023 when the Defense Acquisitions Council, chaired by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, accorded the initial Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the estimated $3.5 billion procurement of Hunter Killer Drones. This major acquisition involves 31 weaponized Predator MQ-9B drones under the ‘Foreign Military Sales’ category. This has been a felt need for our defense services for some time, and their acquisition and deployment will be a game changer for the nation’s security. These drones are needed to be effectively deployed to monitor adversary activities along the LAC. There is an urgent need for the actual contract to be signed.”

Drone Vulnerabilities In Conflict Zones

Recently, the Middle Eastern theater, a cauldron of geopolitical upheaval, has served as an unforgiving testing ground for these unmanned aerial marvels, laying bare their vulnerabilities.

Since the ignition of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza last October, the formidable Houthi forces have downed an astounding six American drones, their defenses proving more formidable than anticipated. These incidents span November, February, April, and a trio of May encounters.
