Gaza explosion kills eight Israeli soldiers

Gaza explosion kills eight Israeli soldiers, IDF's biggest loss of life in months 4,444 4,444 Earlier in the day, Hamas' militant wing said its fighters ambushed an armored personnel carrier west of Rafah, killing and wounding several Israeli soldiers 4,444 In the Israel-Hamas war, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that an armored vehicle explosion in the southern Gaza Strip killed at least eight Israeli soldiers. The tragic incident marked the IDF's biggest loss of life in a single incident since January.

According to the IDF, the incident occurred at around 5 a.m. on Saturday as engineers were in a convoy of six armored vehicles returning from an operation in the Tal al-Sultan area. As they arrived, a massive explosion destroyed one of the vehicles, killing eight Israeli soldiers, The Guardian reported.

News of the incident came shortly after the Palestinians said at least 19 Gazans were killed in a recent Israeli attack in Rafah.

The attack may increase calls for a ceasefire

The IDF is reportedly still investigating whether the vehicle involved in the incident was targeted or whether it was an accidental detonation caused by soldiers having a bomb inside the vehicle.

Interestingly, vehicles used by the IDF are usually equipped with explosives on the outside to avoid injury to the occupants in the event of an explosion. In any case, the incident is expected to increase calls for a ceasefire and increase Israeli public anger over the exemption of ultra-Orthodox Christians from military service.

It is important to note that the Israeli death toll from the Gaza operation now stands at 307. However, the increasing number of Israeli military deaths and injuries is becoming more noticeable among the Israeli public, many of whom are calling for a ceasefire.

At least 21 Israeli soldiers were killed in a single attack in January this year. The attack came amid news that Israel's war cabinet was considering raising the age limit for reservist service by one year.

Who will be the Sabha Speaker? Modi 3.0

Who will be the Sabha Speaker? Modi 3.0 'Kingmaker' JD(U) and TDP differ on key issue 4,444 The election for Lok Sabha Speaker will be held on June 26. 4,444 days after the opposition coalition India insisted that the post of Lok Sabha Speaker should be given to the Bharatiya Janata Party's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partner, the Janata Dal (United) and the Telugu Desam Party appear to be more divided on the sensitive issue. Opinion. Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) said it supported the RBI's decision, while Chandrababu Naidu's TDP said the ruling coalition partners need to agree on a consensus candidate. Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi on Saturday said the JD(U) and TDP, being allies of the NDA, would support the candidate nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"JDU (Janata Dal United) and TDP (Telugu Desam Party) are strong in the NDA. We will support whoever the Bharatiya Janata Party nominates (for the speaker's post)," Tyagi told ANI.

Meanwhile, TDP national spokesperson Pattabhi Ram Komareddy told The Indian Express that the candidate has to be selected jointly by the NDA partners.

"The NDA partners will sit together and decide who will be the candidate for the speaker's post. Once an agreement is reached, we will field that candidate and all partners, including the TDP, will support that candidate," he told the newspaper. The BJP won 240 seats in the National Assembly, 32 seats short of a majority. N. Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, who won 16 and 12 seats in the National Assembly, have emerged as kingmakers, becoming integral to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third government. Its allies in the Indian bloc, the AAP, earlier this month said the post should be given to either the JD(U) or the TDP. Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot alleged that if the BJP wins the Speaker's post, horse-trading will begin between JD(U) and TDP lawmakers. "Not only the TDP and JD(U) but people across the country are keeping a keen eye on the Sabha Speaker election. If the BJP is not going to act undemocratically in future, it should give the Speaker's post to one of its allies," Gehlot said in Hindi on "X."

Now if the BJP keeps the post of the Lok Sabha Speaker with itself, the TDP and JD(U) should be ready to see horse-trading of their MPs," he added.

Rockets land in the north, Israeli warplanes strike targets in Lebanon

Rockets land in the north, Israeli warplanes strike targets in Lebanon

Late this morning, about 35 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon into the area around the border town of Kiryat Shmona, sounding warning sirens in the northern Israeli border region. Dozens of rockets were fired into northern Israel on Friday, and Israeli jets and artillery
struck targets in southern Lebanon, the army said, amid a third consecutive day of intensified cross-border attacks.
About 35 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon into the area around the border town of Kiryat Shmona, sounding warning sirens in the northern Israeli border region early this morning.

Television footage showed damaged buildings and cars, as well as forest fires in several places caused by attacks and falling debris during the heatwave. Warning sirens sounded and emergency services teams were called to several areas but said there were no reports of casualties.

In response, the Israeli army said its artillery struck launch sites belonging to the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon, and Israeli warplanes also struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the Odaisseh and Kfar Khera areas.

Since the Gaza war began in October, Israeli forces in southern Lebanon have been engaged in regular gun battles with Hezbollah forces across the border. Israeli air strikes in Lebanon have killed more than 300 Hezbollah fighters, according to a Reuters tally, more than in 2006, the last time the two countries fought a major war. About 80 civilians were also killed, according to the tally. Israel said 18 Israeli soldiers and 10 civilians were killed in attacks from Lebanon.

While neither side appears to want a major conflict, there are growing fears that the continued escalation of attacks could lead to a situation that is out of control and could lead to a major conflict in a region that is already experiencing Iran.

The latest salvo comes after an Israeli airstrike on Tuesday killed a senior commander of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon and unleashed the largest shelling of northern Israel since the war began last October.

Tens of thousands of residents have fled their homes on both sides of the border, increasing pressure to de-escalate the conflict, but diplomatic efforts have so far been unsuccessful.

On Friday, the Israeli army said its fighter jets and anti-aircraft systems had intercepted 11 of the 16 drones launched by Hezbollah against Israel in the past 72 hours. "The Israeli Air Force remains constantly active to thwart terrorist activities and protect Israeli airspace from any threats," it said in a statement.

Canadian Navy ships and US attack submarine arrive in Cuba, shortly after Russian warships

Canadian Navy ships and US attack submarine arrive in Cuba, shortly after Russian warships

A Canadian Navy patrol ship and a US attack submarine arrived in Cuba within hours of a Russian warship docking in Cuba.

A Canadian Navy patrol ship arrived in Havana early Friday morning, just hours after the US announced that a fast attack submarine had docked at Cuba's Guantanamo Bay naval base. This came just after a Russian warship docked on the island earlier this week, a disturbing reminder of former Cold War tensions and Russia's tense relations with the West amid the Ukrainian war. Although the encounter between the Russian, Canadian and US ships took place in close proximity to Cuba, both the US and Cuba said the Russian warships posed no threat to the region. Moreover, Russia said the arrival of its warships in its ally Cuba was routine. The frigate Admiral Gorshkov and the nuclear submarine Kazan, half submerged with their crews on deck, entered Havana harbor on Wednesday after training in the Atlantic Ocean with "high-precision missile weapons," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The Canadian patrol ship Margaret Brooke began exercises to enter Havana harbor early Friday. The Canadian Joint Operations Command said the visit was a gesture of recognition of the enduring bilateral ties between Canada and Cuba. The incident came hours after U.S. Southern Command announced that the fast attack submarine Helena had arrived for a routine port call at Guantanamo Bay, a U.S. naval base at the tip of an island about 850 kilometers southeast of Havana.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry said it had been informed of the U.S. submarine's arrival but was not satisfied with it. "Naval visits to a country are usually made upon invitation, but this was not the case," said Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Carlos Fernández de Cosío.

"It is clear that we are uncomfortable with the presence on our territory of a submarine from a country that formally and de facto pursues a hostile policy towards Cuba," the ministry statement said.

Chhattisgarh: Eight Maoists and one security guard killed in clash at Abujmad

Maoist clashes: Abujmal is a hilly forested area spread across Narayanpur, Bijapur and Dantewada districts.

At least eight Maoists have been killed in clashes with security forces in Abujmal. One soldier was martyred and two injured. A prolonged gun battle has taken place in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh for the past two days.

Abujmal is a hilly forested area spread across Narayanpur, Bijapur and Dantewada districts. The area is considered a hotbed of Maoist activity as it is geographically isolated and almost inaccessible.

The gunfight broke out this morning in the Abujhmar forest when a joint team of security forces from four districts -- Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada and Kondagaon -- were on their way to an operation against the Naxalites, PTI reported.

The operation, which involved personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from the four districts, the Special Task Force (STF) and the 53rd Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), was launched on June 12.
