Prajwal Revanna's Brother Suraj Arrested For Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Man

Prajwal Revanna's Brother Suraj Arrested For Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Man

A case was filed against Suraj Revanna based on a complaint registered by the 27-year-old party worker who accused the JD(S) leader of sexually assaulting him at a farm house in Karnataka's Hassan district on June 16. Janata Dal-Secular leader Suraj Revanna, the elder brother of Prajwal Revanna who is facing sex crimes allegations by multiple women, has been arrested allegedly for sexually assaulting a male party worker.

A case was filed against Suraj Revanna based on a complaint registered by the 27-year-old party worker who accused the JD(S) leader of sexually assaulting him at a farm house in Karnataka's Hassan district on June 16.

Suraj Revanna, meanwhile, has refuted the charge and alleged that the man filed a false complaint against him after he refused to pay him ₹ 5 crore. Suraj Revanna's friend Shivkumar had also yesterday filed a police complaint, alleging that the JD(S) worker had approached him earlier this month and demanded ₹ 5 crore, threatening that he would file a sexual abuse case against Suraj Revanna if his demands were not met.

Shivkumar said the man initially approached him seeking help in finding a job. Shivkumar gave him Suraj Revanna's phone number and asked him to contact Suraj. But after failing to get work, he began threatening Shivkumar and Suraj, the complaint states. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said the case would be investigated further by the CID.

Suraj's arrest comes days after former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna was detained. The 33-year-old grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former chief minister H. D. Deve Gowda unsuccessfully tried to retain his seat from Hassan assembly constituency in the recent elections.

The sexual abuse case came to light after a USB stick containing an explicit video purportedly featuring Prajwal Revanna was circulated in Hassan ahead of the April 26 Lok Sabha elections.

Piles of bodies, blood everywhere": Red Cross leader describes horror of bombing by Israel on Rafah

Piles of bodies, blood everywhere": Red Cross leader describes horror of bombing

William Schomburg, regional director of the International Security Council, told reporters that a bomb exploded at the Red Cross compound at around 3:30 pm on Friday. "Many injuries. "

Minor damage to the exterior of the Red Cross office building, the bomb killed 22 people.

It is located in the south of the humanitarian zone defined by the Israeli army in Palestinian territory.

"All three houses are known by conflicting people," said Schomburg.

Refusing to think about the source of the bomb, he said: “We are not here to point fingers. We, as the International Security Council, cannot act like this. However, Mberg said that two workers' children were injured in the explosion and needed treatment. The crosspieces were destroyed first.

"There was blood in the streets around the compound and bodies were strewn on the ground," he said.

“We saw bodies scattered everywhere, including the hotspot where 41 people died.

Gaza's Ministry of Health said on Saturday that at least 37,551 people, mostly civilians, were killed in the Israeli offensive.

The Israel Defense Forces announced on Saturday that an initial investigation revealed "there was no direct attack on the Red Cross site by the Israel Defense Forces."

However, the situation is still being investigated and "the results of the investigation will be presented to our international partners".

Around the Red Cross office there is a camp where several families of ICRC workers live in tents. Schomburg said it was a "miracle" that no one was seriously injured.

But he added that "people are very scared, very desperate and have nowhere to go."

Since the conflict, thousands of displaced Palestinians have been living in tents in the coastal area of Al-Mawasi, which has helped Israeli authorities gain knowledge of the humanitarian area.

"Our offices in Rafah, like all buildings and offices, are marked with the Red Cross emblem and are known to all parties," Schomburg said.

53rd GST Council meeting: Exemption for student hostels, railway services and more

53rd GST Council meeting: Exemption for student hostels, railway services. Tax rates cut on milk cans, solar cookers

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, the federal indirect tax body, on Saturday decided to reduce tax rates on some items such as milk cans and solar cookers, signalling an end to anti-tariffs. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said after the 53rd Council meeting in New Delhi that a number of steps have been taken to abolish price gouging and ease trade.

The council has also decided to reduce tax rates on items such as milk cans, solar cookers (whether they have one or two energy sources), cartons, crates, wooden boxes used for packing fruits, etc. to 12% from 18%.

The indirect tax body has also exempted hostel stays of more than 90 days in non-educational institutions from GST, Sitharaman said. Hostel stays in educational institutions are already exempt from GST, she added. The exemption announced on Saturday applies to hostel fees up to Rs 20,000 per person per month. "This is aimed at students who stay for 90 days at a time, but not tourists," the minister said.

Tax rates on many mass-produced items have come down significantly after the introduction of GST and subsequent successive cuts in the new tax regime.

Wheat flour and atta, which were taxed at 3.5% before GST, and sanitary napkins, which were previously taxed at 12%, will no longer be taxed under GST. Unbranded Ayurvedic medicines, which were previously taxed at 12%, are now taxed at 5%. Tax rates on detergents, televisions and cosmetics have also come down to 18% from 28%. According to data from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), mobile phones, electrical appliances, washing machines and refrigerators, which were taxed at over 31 per cent before the implementation of GST, are now taxed at 18 per cent. The council has exempted Indian Railways' platform cards, toilets, cloakrooms and battery-operated bus services from GST. Services provided by special coaches during the concession period to Indian Railways will also not be subject to GST. Sitharaman said the council would meet again in August.

CBI to investigate NEET-UG allegations, Central government removes Revenue Commissioner

CBI to investigate NEET-UG allegations, Central government removes Revenue Commissioner

The central government has also postponed the NEET-PG entrance exam.

Facing criticism over discrepancies in competitive exams, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government on Saturday announced a series of decisions to curb the fallout from the agitation. These include removing the head of the National Testing Agency (NTA), setting up a committee to review the functioning of the agency and transferring the investigation into the NEET-UG irregularities to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The central government has also postponed the NEET-PG entrance exam. Last week, the government called off the exams after it found that question papers of the UGC-NET exam were circulating on the dark web and on Telegram.

To pin the blame for this embarrassing altercation, the central government on Saturday removed Revenue Commissioner Subodh Singh. He has been placed on "standby duty" with the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) until further notice.

Pradeep Singh Kharola, Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), has been given additional charge of NTA till a new officer is appointed. NTA is the nodal agency that conducts a number of entrance exams every year, including UGC-NET and NEET.

The central government's Ministry of Education has constituted a seven-member committee to review the functioning of NTA and recommend reforms in the organisation. The committee is chaired by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan. The panel members include former director of AIIMS Delhi Randeep Guleria, vice chancellor of Central University of Hyderabad B.J. Rao, and K. Ramamurthy, professor emeritus of civil engineering at IIT Madras. Pankaj Bansal, co-founder of People Strong and trustee of Karmayogi Bharat, Aditya Mittal, dean of students at Delhi Technological University, and Govind Jaiswal, additional secretary in the education ministry. "We are in support of testing that is transparent and free from manipulation and errors. An exam reforms committee has been formed, strict action has been taken against the officials and the case has been handed over to the CBI," India's Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said. He added that the government would protect the interest of students at all costs.

The ministry noted that suspected cases of cheating, fraud, impersonation and illegal activities in the conduct of NEET-UG have been reported. In order to maintain transparency, it said the case would be handed over to the CBI for a "comprehensive investigation".

The Union Health Ministry on Saturday evening announced the postponement of the NEET-PG entrance exam as a "precautionary measure" following instances of irregularities in some of the exams. The decision came a day after the joint CSIR-UGC-NET was postponed. Pradhan, however, denied that the CSIR-NET documents had been leaked and said the exam was postponed for logistical reasons.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that the education system has been destroyed under the Narendra Modi government. "Now NEET-PG is also postponed. This is another unfortunate example of how the education system has been destroyed under the Narendra Modi government. It is now clear -- PM Modi, who has been silently watching the spectacle every time, is totally powerless before the paper leak scandal and the education mafia," he wrote in Hindi to Mr X.

Allegations of discrepancies in NEET-UG emerged after a whopping 67 medical students secured perfect marks in one of the toughest exams in the country. Six of the students are from one centre in Haryana. There was also a furor over the awarding of extra marks to some candidates. More than 1,500 students were given a chance to retake the exam.

Last week, Bihar police arrested six people in Deogarh for allegedly leaking the NEET exam. They have now arrested 13 people, including the main suspect, Sikandar Yadavendu. The central government has enacted a law to curb cheating and malpractice in competitive examinations. The law provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore for violators. The Public Examinations (Prevention of Cheating) Act, 2024 was passed by President Dhruv Murmu four months ago.
