India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) today announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia on July 8-9 to host the 22nd Annual India-Russia Summit, where all relations between the two countries will be reviewed. .

According to the information received, Prime Minister Modi will go to Austria after completing his visit to Russia. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 41 years.

This will be Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Russia in nearly five years. His last trip to Russia was in 2019, when he attended a financial conference in the eastern city of Vladivostok.

The annual meeting between the Prime Minister of India and the President of Russia is the highest forum for cooperation between the two countries.

So far, India and Russia have held 21 meetings alternately every year.

The last meeting was held on 6 December 2021 in New Delhi. Russian President Putin visited India to attend the meeting.

During the meeting, the two sides signed 28 memorandums of understanding and agreements and issued a joint statement titled "India-Russia Partnership for Peace, Progress and Prosperity".

Prime Minister Modi and President Putin held their last bilateral meeting during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on September 16, 2022. President Putin ended the meeting.

Prime Minister Modi said, "I know that today is not about war. We have talked many times on the phone about this problem, freedom, dialogue and discussion that affects the whole world." Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Prime Minister Modi has had several phone calls with President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky.

Considering its deep friendship with Russia, India is yet to condemn Moscow's attack on Ukraine and said the crisis should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation.

India's supplies of Russian crude oil have also increased despite G7 price ceilings and growing concerns about purchases from many Western countries.

In December 2022, the G7 and its allies announced a cap on Russian oil prices as part of sanctions imposed on Moscow over its attack on Ukraine. The price cap limits countries from paying more than $60 per barrel.

Over more than two decades now, after leaving the Uttar Pradesh Police in the 1990s where he was Constable Suraj Pal from Kasganj, to become a self-styled religious preacher, he has gathered a considerable following — mostly low-income Dalit families, where the men are employed as labourers, masons, agricultural labourers, safai karmacharis, carpenters or carpet-sellers, many of whom were witness to his rising popularity.

Many said what drew them to ‘Bhole Baba’, also from a Dalit family, was that he did not seek any offerings. "Baba neither takes nor asks for anything. In satsang, he teaches us not to lie and not to eat meat, fish, eggs and alcohol," said Urmila Devi, who attended the satsang with her sister, Taramati. Taramati, a widow, was among the injured. Both sisters live in Mathura. This was Taramati's fourth time attending a satsang where "Bhole Baba" speaks and this time she had asked her sister to attend. Most of the women devotees, like the two sisters, are between 40 and 70 years old. "When the satsang was over, Bhole Baba said, 'Aaj praley aayegi, aur phir praley aa gayi' (today is the day of judgement and he was right)," Taramati said from her hospital bed.

According to residents of Donkeri village in Hathras district, "Bhole Baba" has 10-12 sevadals (core devotees) in each village. Hezbollah launches over 200 rockets at several military bases in Israel after killing of senior commander

 

Lebanon's Hezbollah group said it had fired more than 200 rockets at several Israeli military bases in retaliation for an attack that killed one of its senior commanders.

Thursday's attack by Iranian-backed militants was one of the largest in the months-long conflict along the Lebanese-Israeli border, where tensions have risen in recent weeks. The Israeli army said "numerous projectiles and suspicious aerial targets" had entered its territory from Lebanon, many of which were intercepted. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

On Wednesday, the government acknowledged the killing the previous day of Mohammad Naameh Nasser, who headed one of Hezbollah's three regional divisions in southern Lebanon. Hours later, Hezbollah fired dozens of Katyusha and Falak rockets with heavy warheads into northern Israel and the Golan Heights in occupied Syria. It also said Thursday it had fired more rockets and sent explosive drones to some of its bases.

The United States and France are continuing desperate efforts to prevent the skirmish from escalating into an all-out war that could spread across the region.

The relatively benign conflict erupted shortly after war broke out in Gaza. Hezbollah said it was attacking Israel in solidarity with Hamas, another Iranian-backed group that sparked the Gaza war with its Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel.

Fighting has displaced tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border. Sixteen soldiers and 11 civilians were killed in northern Israel. More than 450 people were killed in Lebanon, mostly combatants but also dozens of civilians.
