BMW Hit and Run Case accused Mihir Shah arrested
Mihir Shah arrest: This is how Mumbai police tracked down BMW hit and run case accused after two days
Mumbai BMW hit and run case: Mihir Shah (24), who managed to evade police since Sunday, was arrested in Virar near Mumbai morning.
Mihir Shah, the fugitive in the Mumbai BMW hit and run case and son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, was arrested by police on Tuesday, two days after he allegedly rammed his luxury car into a two-wheeler, killing a woman and injuring her husband. Mihir Shah (24), who managed to evade police since Sunday morning, was arrested in Virar near Mumbai morning.
Mihir Shah's mother and two sisters have been brought to Mumbai from Shahapur in Thane district for questioning. They are being questioned along with 10 others, news agency PTI quoted officials as saying.
Kaveri Nakhwa was dragged for 1.5 km
On the morning of July 7, a BMW driven by Mihir Shah allegedly rammed into a two-wheeler from behind in Worli area in south-central Mumbai. The collision killed Kaveri Nakhwa (45), who was sitting in the pillion seat, while her husband Pradeep Nakhwa survived but sustained injuries.
According to police, Mihir Shah fled the scene of the accident in an autorickshaw, leaving the car and its driver in Kalanagar area. He then reached his girlfriend's apartment in suburban Goregaon. His friend contacted Mihir Shah's sister, who reached Goregaon and took him and his friend to her residence in Borivali, PTI reported.
The Shah family then decided to flee in an Audi to a resort in Shahapur in Thane district. Mihir Shah's mother Meena, sisters Kinjal and Pooja and two friends were also staying at the resort. After learning the identity of one of the friends who was accompanying Mihir Shah, Mumbai Police traced his number. However, he too had switched off his mobile phone, a police officer said.
Late in the evening on July 8, Mihir Shah and his friends left the Shahapur resort and reached Virar.
But how was Mihir Shah arrested?
When his friend switched on his mobile phone for 15 minutes, Mumbai Police were able to quickly locate and intercept the cell tower.
On Mihir's movements before the accident, an official told PTI that he had partied with friends at a bar in Juhu area and then left for south Mumbai with his driver in the early hours. He was seen driving his BMW around 4.30am in Marine Drive area with driver Rajirshi Bidawat sitting next to him. The car collided with a two-wheeler on reaching Worli, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakwa.
After two days of careful investigation, Mumbai Police managed to track down the friend who made the mistake of switching on his mobile phone for just 15 minutes.
Mihir, 24, who had managed to elude police since the accident on Sunday morning, was finally arrested in Virar, near Mumbai.

Israel Killed Over 100 Hamas Terrorists, Destroyed 6 Tunnels In Gaza's Shejaya
Soldiers from the Airborne Brigade and the elite combat engineer unit Yahalom have been fighting on the ground and underground in Shejaya since June 27.
Since Israeli troops returned to Shejaya, a northern Gaza town where Hamas is trying to reconstruct, troops have killed more than 150 terrorists and destroyed six "important" tunnels, the IDF said on Wednesday. Soldiers from the Airborne Brigade and the elite combat engineer unit Yahalom have been fighting on the ground and underground in Shejaya since June 27.
According to the military, soldiers have killed more than 150 terrorists in hand-to-hand combat, destroyed booby-trapped buildings, and seized weapons and intelligence documents.
Six major tunnels, about six kilometers long, have been destroyed and soldiers are continuing to search for them. Weapons and intelligence documents were found in some of the tunnel junctions, hideouts, and command and control centers.
A Hamas attack on an Israeli community near the Gaza border on October 7 killed at least 1,200 people and took 252 Israelis and foreign hostages. Of the 116 hostages that remained, more than 30 are estimated to have died.

Modi hugs Putin marking deep ties between Russia and India
Modi bear-hugs Putin in Moscow, marking deep ties between Russia and India
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been hosted by President Biden at a state dinner and lavished with praise by White House officials, who describe ties with India as “one of the most consequential relationships” for the United States.
But this week, Modi reminded the world that he has another close relationship — with “my dear friend Vladimir Putin.”
As Modi makes his first visit to Russia since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the images emerging from Moscow of Modi wrapping the Russian president in a hug send a clear signal that the South Asian giant will maintain deep ties with Russia despite the Biden administration’s efforts to woo its prime minister. It also shows that Putin is not as isolated as the White House has hoped.
The trip to Moscow, which overlapped with three days of NATO meetings in Washington, was met with consternation in Washington and Kyiv. Asked about the Modi-Putin meeting, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters at a press briefing: “We have made quite clear directly with India our concerns about their relationship with Russia.” On X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted photos of a children’s hospital in Kyiv that was struck by a Russian missile on Monday and criticized the meeting. "It is deeply unfortunate and a devastating blow to peace efforts that the leader of the world's largest democracy should embrace the world's bloodiest criminal in Moscow on such a day," he wrote.
The meeting was between two heads of state who, while needing each other, are increasingly drawn into competing camps: the United States and China. For Modi, Russia remains a vital source of weapons, energy and space technology and is essential for India to become a great power. Analysts also note that India does not want Russia to become overly dependent on rival China.

SDM, tehsildar, circle officer among officials suspended over Hathras stampede
Officials said the SIT, which submitted its report on Monday blaming the organizers for the stampede, has not ruled out the possibility of a conspiracy
The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday suspended a sub-district magistrate (SDM), a tehsildar, a district police officer, one station officer and two police outpost officers for alleged dereliction of duty. This was done on the recommendations of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to probe the stampede at a religious gathering in Hathras last week, in which 121 people died, officials said.
Officials added that the SIT, which submitted its report on Monday blaming the organizers for the stampede, has not ruled out the possibility of a conspiracy but stressed the need for a thorough investigation. "In a preliminary investigation, the SIT has identified those primarily responsible for the accident based on eyewitness testimony and other evidence. The SIT has also found the organizers as well as the police and tehsil-level administration guilty," said the official on condition of anonymity. He said the SIT had concluded that the suspended officials had not taken the meeting seriously and had not reported it to their superiors. The official added that the SIT said the SDM had given permission for the event without inspecting the venue or informing higher officials. He added that the organisers had concealed the facts and obtained permission for the event. The official said the conditions applicable for the permission had not been met. He added that the organisers had not taken adequate precautions and had failed to meet the conditions approved by the administration.
The official said the SIT had said officials from the organising committee had created confusion. He added that some had joined the committee without proper verification by the police. The official said the organising committee had misbehaved with the police and tried to prevent them from inspecting the venue. He added that despite the huge crowd, no maintenance of fencing or pathways had been done. The official said the organising committee members fled the scene during the stampede. He added that the SIT had recorded statements of 125 people, including administrative officials, police personnel, common people and eyewitnesses. "In addition, newspaper articles relating to the incident, video footage from the scene, photographs and video clips were also reviewed," he said.
