Trump likely to sign 100 executive orders on day one

Trump likely to sign 100 executive orders on day one

These executive orders are mainly aimed at fulfilling his poll promises. In an interview to NBC news, Trump said he is planning to sign a “record-setting” number of executive actions on day one.

When Donald Trump walks into the White House Monday afternoon soon after his swearing-in, 100 plus executive orders would be waiting for him on his Oval Office Desk, which his team has prepared for him to kickoff his second term without wasting any minute.

These executive orders are mainly aimed at fulfilling his poll promises. In an interview to NBC news, Trump said he is planning to sign a “record-setting” number of executive actions on day one. “Well, at least in that category,” Trump said when asked if these executive orders would be more than 100.

An executive order is an order issued unilaterally by the president who carries the force of law. Unlike legislation, executive orders do not require Congressional approval. Though Congress cannot overturn them, they can be challenged in the court of law.

“We have a record-setting number of documents that I’ll be signing right after this (inauguration) speech,” Trump said. He would be sworn-in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20.

One of his close associates Stephen Miller told a news channel that these would mainly be around five topics: sealing the Southern border, mass deportation, preventing transgender people from women’s sports, removing restrictions on energy exploration and improving government efficiency. Among his executive orders is expected to be pardoning his supporters who were arrested by law enforcement agencies for their role in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6 four years ago.

Donald Trump wishes to journey to China and has discussed a potential visit to India.

Upon his arrival at Dulles International Airport, Donald Trump was on a special aircraft with First Lady Melania and their son Barron. During his campaign for election, he had claimed he would consider placing higher tariffs on China.

According to a report from Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump intends to visit China following his inauguration as he seeks to enhance ties with Beijing. He has also conversed with his advisors about the possibility of a trip to India.

As per information reported by The Wall Street Journal, “President-elect Donald Trump has expressed a desire to go to China after taking office, wanting to mend a relationship with Xi Jinping that has been tested by his previous threats of increasing tariffs on imports from China.”

The financial publication noted, “Trump has also discussed a potential trip to India with his advisors.” Sources familiar with the matter indicated that initial discussions took place when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar traveled to Washington, D.C., around the Christmas period last month.

India is preparing to host the QUAD Summit, which includes leaders from Australia, Japan, and the United States. This visit may occur as soon as April or possibly during the fall of this year. It is also being speculated that Trump might invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a meeting at the White House in the spring.

Gaza ceasefire set to start today with hostage exchange; Israeli troops retreat from Rafah

Gaza ceasefire set to start today with hostage exchange; Israeli troops retreat from Rafah

On Sunday, Israeli troops initiated their withdrawal from Rafah in Gaza towards the Philadelphi corridor at the Egypt-Gaza border before the first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas commences. This pullback is part of a three-step ceasefire plan facilitated by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, aimed at ending the ongoing conflict that has lasted 15 months and resulted in nearly 47,000 Palestinian deaths, according to the Gaza health ministry's statistics.

Following the agreement, Israel continued its military operations in Gaza, claiming that Hamas failed to uphold certain terms of the deal. As a result of post-agreement strikes, more than 70 Palestinians reportedly lost their lives, as stated by the Gaza health ministry.

The inaugural phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas kicks off on Sunday. This initial stage will span six weeks and involves Hamas releasing 33 out of the remaining 98 hostages, which include women, children, men over 50, and those who are sick or injured, in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian detainees and prisoners held in Israel.

On Sunday, the Red Cross will facilitate the release of three Israeli female hostages by the afternoon in exchange for 30 Hamas detainees. After a week, four additional female hostages will be freed, followed by the return of three more hostages every week, as explained by chief US negotiator Brett McGurk.

During this initial stage, the Israeli military will withdraw from some positions in northern Gaza, allowing displaced Palestinians from these regions to return home.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks highlighted the unstable nature of the ceasefire. “We maintain the right to restart military actions if needed, with support from America,” he stated.

This ceasefire agreement was established with the involvement of the US and Qatar. It takes effect just days before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump on January 20. Republican leaders had warned Hamas of severe consequences if the hostages weren’t released quickly, while Trump had also urged for a swift resolution to the ceasefire agreement.

Gaza Ceasefire Set to Commence Tomorrow: What’s Included in Stage 1, Who is Being Released?

The ceasefire in Gaza will initiate tomorrow, sparking optimism for the conclusion of the year-long conflict that has resulted in thousands of casualties in the territory bombarded by Israeli forces as a reaction to an assault on civilians by Palestinian factions. During the October 7 incident, numerous Israelis were abducted and taken across the border, with some expected to come back from Gaza after 15 months in exchange for prisoners held by Israel. Here are some specifics about the hostage exchange and the individuals scheduled to be released by Israel and Hamas:

What is the agreement?

The Israeli government has sanctioned the ceasefire and the release of captives, which Hamas had previously accepted, being a key player in Palestinian resistance.

The initial stage of the arrangement, which will last for six weeks, is expected to establish a "total ceasefire," as stated by US President Joe Biden on Thursday. This would halt hostilities between Israel and Hamas, offering hope to millions displaced from their residences who have been awaiting news of their loved ones.

According to the Justice Ministry, up to 737 detainees will be released in this first stage from Israeli prisons. This group will consist of men, women, and children. The government has emphasized that they will not proceed with the release before 4 pm local time on Sunday, equivalent to 1400 GMT.

Trump's Inauguration Relocated Indoors Due to Anticipated Freezing Conditions

Trump's Inauguration Relocated Indoors Due to Anticipated Freezing Conditions

"There is a cold Arctic wave hitting the nation," Trump posted on his Truth Social account on Friday. "As a result, I have decided that the Inauguration Address, along with prayers and other presentations, will occur in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol."

Donald Trump announced that his presidential inauguration set for Monday will now take place indoors because of the forecasted freezing temperatures, disappointing Republican ambitions for a lavish display to mark the beginning of his second term.

"A frigid Arctic air mass is affecting the entire country," Trump shared on his Truth Social platform on Friday. "Consequently, I have instructed that the Inauguration Address, together with prayers and various speeches, should be conducted in the United States Capitol Rotunda."

This alteration in arrangements means that Trump will not be positioned on the steps of the Capitol that overlook the National Mall, which normally accommodates a large assembly to greet new presidents. The Rotunda, a beautifully decorated circular chamber beneath the dome of Congress, usually fits only a few hundred attendees.

Forecasts indicate that Washington, D.C. will experience significant sub-freezing temperatures on Monday, with strong winds exacerbating the chill.

Preparations have been conducted in Washington for a substantial arrival of guests -- with rows of chairs neatly arranged on the Mall -- but most will now be required to view the event via television.

This is the first time such a precaution has been implemented since Ronald Reagan's inauguration in 1985, which also faced perilously cold weather.
