PM Modi's Trip to France: New Indian Consulate and Nuclear Project Visit Planned

PM Modi's Trip to France: New Indian Consulate and Nuclear Project Visit Planned

Today marks the conclusion of PM Modi's three-day journey in France, during which he will launch the second Indian consulate in the nation, following the Indian Embassy located in Paris.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in the city of Marseille on Wednesday, expressing admiration for the bravery of freedom fighter VD "Veer" Savarkar, who he noted made a "bold escape." This visit will come to an end today, as he officially opens the second Indian consulate in France aside from the Paris Embassy. After finishing his time in France, he is scheduled to head to the United States on February 13. The Indian community in Paris warmly welcomed him on February 10.

What’s on Today’s Schedule?

On the final day of his three-day visit to France, the plan includes activities aimed at strengthening India-France relations, including the inauguration of India's second consulate and a memorial service honoring soldiers who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars at the Mazargues War Cemetery. Additionally, Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron will tour the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, which involves international cooperation in nuclear fusion.

The India-France Link During British Colonial Times

PM Modi expressed gratitude to the residents of Marseille and French activists for their contributions to India's fight for independence by standing against his extradition to British control.

During the time of British domination, Savarkar attempted to flee from the British ship Morea in July 1910 while being transported to India for legal proceedings. He escaped through the ship's porthole, swam to land, but was apprehended by French authorities and handed back to the British. Subsequently, he received a life sentence at Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

What Occurred on Tuesday?

On Tuesday, PM Modi and Mr. Macron participated in the AI Action Summit and the 14th India-France CEOs Forum held in Paris. While speaking at the occasion, PM Modi remarked, “This transcends being merely a business gathering—it represents the coming together of the most brilliant individuals from India and France. You are adopting the principles of innovation, collaboration, and advancement, propelling progress with intention. In addition to building connections in the boardroom, you are actively strengthening the strategic alliance between India and France.”

Trump Tariff | Summary: Canada to initiate legal proceedings against the US regarding tariffs

President of the United States, Donald Trump, has declared tariffs on key trading nations Canada, Mexico, and China, referencing a "significant danger" posed by illegal immigration and drug trafficking. He has established a 25% tariff on imports from both Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on goods from China.

Immediately following Trump's announcement, outgoing Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, stated that Canada would respond with 25% tariffs on $155 billion worth of US imports.

Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, declared that her country would act in response to the tariffs enforced by US President Donald Trump by implementing their own tariffs. Additionally, China has pledged to take "appropriate countermeasures."

The tariffs set by Trump are likely to create an economic conflict with America’s primary trading partners, Mexico and Canada, disrupting a longstanding trade relationship and potentially leading to severe repercussions from these countries. If maintained, the tariffs could also significantly exacerbate inflation within the United States.

According to the White House, these tariffs will remain in place "until the crisis is resolved." Nonetheless, representatives failed to outline the actions the three countries must take to be exempt from Trump's tariff regulations.

Officials further indicated that no exemptions would be available from the tariffs and suggested that should Canada, Mexico, or China retaliate against American exports, Trump would probably increase the tariffs.

Maha Kumbh 2025: Today Marks the Third Amrit Snan at Prayagraj - Akharas Take the Lead in the Sacred Dip

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 continues to enchant pilgrims and spiritual figures as the third 'Amrit Snan' unfolds at the revered Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. This event aligns with Basant Panchami, a day viewed as favorable for spiritual rejuvenation and worship, especially of Goddess Saraswati.

Saint Chinmayanand Bapu praised the careful arrangements, highlighting the day’s spiritual importance for students. He mentioned, “Taking a holy bath today guarantees success.” Likewise, Swami Kailashanand Giri from the Niranjani Akhara acknowledged Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the smooth planning for the 13 Akharas involved in the bathing ritual.

Akharas Lead Grand Processions

The sacred bathing commenced at 4 am with Sanyasi Sect Akharas, such as Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shri Panchdashnam Juna Akhara, at the forefront. The Naga sadhus, recognized for their ash-covered bodies and spiritual practices, displayed their distinct rituals and skills with weapons, enriching the occasion with their presence.

By Monday morning, more than 6.22 million pilgrims had participated in the Sangam dip. Authorities project that the total number of bathers, since the Mela's beginning, has surpassed 35 crore and is likely to exceed 50 crore by the event's end. The surge in devotees led the district administration to announce a holiday in Prayagraj to ensure safety and order.
