Hamas displays and transfers three additional hostages to the Red Cross in Gaza according to the Israeli military

Hamas displays and transfers three additional hostages to the Red Cross in Gaza according to the Israeli military.

Hamas turned over three hostages to the Red Cross in Gaza as a part of a ceasefire agreement with Israel.

On Saturday, the militant organization Hamas presented three new hostages to the Red Cross after showcasing them to a large audience in Gaza, as reported by the Israeli military. The individuals included 46-year-old Iair Horn, 36-year-old Sagui Dekel, and 29-year-old Alexander (Sasha) Troufanov.

Horn possesses dual citizenship in Israel and Argentina, Dekel is an American citizen of Israeli descent, and Troufanov has both Israeli and Russian nationalities. All three were taken captive on October 7, 2023, during an assault by Hamas on Israel, which initiated the Israel-Hamas conflict.

On Saturday morning, Red Cross vehicles arrived at the designated site for the hostages' release. Similar to prior exchanges, numerous masked and armed Hamas members positioned themselves near a platform adorned with Palestinian flags and banners from militant groups while music played loudly.

This marks the sixth exchange since the ceasefire began on January 19. Thus far, 21 hostages and over 730 Palestinian detainees have been released in the initial stage of the truce.

A 'masterclass for global leaders': CNN's take on Modi's discussions with Trump

“On the same day that Trump revealed the concerning reciprocal tariffs, Modi was in Washington,” noted Will Ripley, CNN's Senior International Correspondent. According to CNN reporter Will Ripley, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's discussions with US President Donald Trump served as a ‘masterclass’ for leaders internationally. “We have witnessed, initially with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba's very favorable meeting with Trump, and now what seems to be another successful meeting between Trump and Prime Minister Modi… this is an exemplary lesson for leaders everywhere on how to engage in negotiations with President Trump,” Ripley stated during a CNN segment.

Ripley continued, “It's unclear if Prime Minister Modi was aware or anticipated President Trump’s announcement regarding reciprocal tariffs, which could lead to significant embarrassment for Modi if he returned to India without achieving meaningful results. However, by the conclusion of their meeting, they announced what can be seen as the best possible resolution for both parties.” Just before the meeting with Modi, Donald Trump unveiled a strategy to implement reciprocal tariffs, though these tariffs will not be enforced right away.

The Republican leader, who has previously labeled India a ‘major abuser’ of tariffs, once again referenced the nation as he signed the executive order concerning reciprocal taxes.

“There are a few smaller nations that impose higher tariffs, but India has incredibly high tariffs. I recall when Harley Davidson was unable to sell its motorcycles in India due to the steep taxes; the tariffs were so excessive that Harley had to establish… a factory in India to avoid those costs,” he commented.

Second US flight carrying Indian migrants to reach Amritsar today

Second US flight carrying Indian migrants to reach Amritsar today

The second flight transporting Indian deportees from the United States is anticipated to land in Amritsar between 10 and 11 in the evening on Saturday.

During the latest phase of deportations connected to President Donald Trump's immigration enforcement, 119 undocumented Indian nationals are scheduled to arrive at Amritsar International Airport in a US military aircraft on Saturday.

A C-17 military plane from the US will transport 67 individuals from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, eight from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, two each from Rajasthan and Maharashtra, and one each from Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh.

The flight is set to reach Amritsar Airport at approximately 10 pm on Saturday. The deportation process is expected to persist every two weeks until all undocumented immigrants have returned to their home country, as reported by the PTI news agency.

Last week, 104 undocumented Indian immigrants were sent back from the US. They were flown to Amritsar on a C-17 transport aircraft provided by the US military.

These deportations also relate to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent trip to the US, where he engaged in discussions with Trump regarding various significant bilateral matters, including immigration.

As Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin reach a consensus on Ukraine war, global oil and food markets eye supply relief

As Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin reach a consensus to engage in discussions aimed at concluding the Ukraine conflict, optimism spreads through global oil and food markets regarding potential supply improvements. The market responded positively to this agreement, with a drop in oil prices, an increase in stock futures, and expectations of enhancements in energy and agricultural trade, despite ongoing significant uncertainties.

The leaders of the United States and Russia, Trump and Putin, have concurred to commence peace talks regarding the Ukraine war. This initiative may mitigate geopolitical threats to the supply of Russian crude oil, affect global agricultural exchanges, and bolster financial market growth. Trump noted that both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy showed an interest in achieving peace in separate telephone discussions with him on Wednesday. This led him to direct senior US officials to start negotiations aimed at bringing an end to the conflict.

This initiative has already influenced international markets, with a boost in US and European stock futures due to rising hopes for a peace resolution. Nasdaq futures increased by 0.4 percent today, while S&P 500 futures rose by 0.2 percent. Japan's Nikkei index saw a 1.4 percent rise, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index continued its upward trend with a 2.5 percent gain. Concurrently, the euro gained strength, and oil prices fell as traders looked forward to potential relief from supply issues.

Concerns about oil supply are alleviated.

As Russia plays a crucial role in crude oil exports, the possibility of the Ukraine war's conclusion has brightened prospects for stabilizing global crude prices and lessening geopolitical risks associated with Russian oil supply. Brent crude prices dipped below $75 a barrel, marking a 2.4 percent decrease—the largest decline in over two months—while West Texas Intermediate hovered around $71.

Trump indicated that negotiations would commence without delay, with a potential meeting with Putin in Saudi Arabia anticipated in the near future, based on a post on social media. Analysts have suggested that a possible reduction in tensions could lead to more stable trade patterns, diminished price volatility, and steadier energy pricing around the globe.
