Netanyahu vows 'total victory' against Hamas in US Congress speech amid protests
Benjamin Netanyahu sketched a vague outline of a plan for a 'deradicalised' post-war Gaza in a speech to Congress, which was boycotted by dozens of Democrats as thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters demonstrated outside the US Capitol.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed “total victory” against Hamas and condemned American opponents of the war in Gaza on Wednesday in a scathing speech to Congress boycotted by dozens of Democratic lawmakers and protested by thousands seeking an end to the war and the humanitarian crisis created by it.
Netanyahu’s combative speech offered no sign that his visit to the United States — his first trip abroad since the war started — could bring some progress in months of US-led mediation for a cease-fire and hostage-release, as the Biden administration has hoped. Speaking for nearly an hour to frequent applause from US lawmakers, as well as stony silence from many leading Democrats in the chamber, Netanyahu said the US has a shared interest in his country's fight against Hamas and other Iran-backed armed groups. “America and Israel must stand together. "When we are united, a very simple thing happens: we win and they lose," Netanyahu said, wearing a yellow pin in solidarity with Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
But the Israeli president soon struck a darker tone, pointing to demonstrations in the streets outside the parliament building and mocking those protesting the war on college campuses and across the United States. He called the demonstrators "useful fools" for opponents of Israel.
Some of the hostages released from Gaza and the families of those still being held listened in on the House of Representatives chamber. Security forces cleared demonstrators from a gallery where they had stood to display T-shirts bearing slogans calling for an end to the war and the release of the remaining hostages.

Elon Musk attended Prime Minister Netanyahu's address to Congress as a guest
Elon Musk attended Prime Minister Netanyahu's address to Congress as a guest, while dozens of lawmakers were absent.
Elon Musk attended Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress as a guest, the billionaire told reporters.
Musk previously announced that his satellite internet company Starlink had gone live in a hospital in the Gaza Strip.
Vice President Kamala Harris and more than 30 lawmakers did not attend Netanyahu's fourth address to a joint session of Congress. Elon Musk made a surprise appearance in Washington on Wednesday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress, attending the event as Netanyahu's guest.
Musk sat in Netanyahu's private box in the visitors' gallery above the House of Representatives chamber, next to Netanyahu's wife Sara, several Israeli soldiers and at least one former Hamas hostage.
The Tesla
Motors CEO's visit to the Capitol came a day after he announced on X that his satellite internet company Starlink had gone live in a hospital in Gaza with the support of Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
Nine months after the start of the Israeli-Hamas war and the resulting humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Netanyahu's speech became a lightning rod for controversy and sparked an explosion of protests in Washington.
Just before Netanyahu's speech began, the US Capitol Police announced that they would use "pepper spray" against demonstrators who "initiated violence" near the Capitol.
In his speech, Netanyahu called the protesters "idiots who are useful to Iran."
"These protesters are chanting from the river to the sea, but many of them don't know which river or sea they are referring to," Netanyahu said.
More than 30 lawmakers did not attend Netanyahu's speech, many of them in protest at the Israeli prime minister's stance on the war between Israel and Hamas.
But Democrat Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, one of Netanyahu's most vocal opponents in Congress, attended the speech. At several points, Tlaib held up a sign that read "War Criminal." This apparent breach of House etiquette reflected the deep and painful divisions within Congress over the prime minister's leadership.
Despite his absence, the prime minister entered the packed House to thunderous applause and cheers, and shook hands with several lawmakers on his way to the podium.
"America and Israel must be united, because when we are united, very simple things happen. "We will win and they will lose," Netanyahu said at the start of his speech.
The prime minister thanked President Joe Biden for his "wholehearted support for Israel."
"President Biden and I have known each other for more than 40 years," Netanyahu said. "I want to thank him for half a century of friendship with Israel."
Mr Biden and Mr Netanyahu will meet at the White House on Thursday.

They pin you to ground, take off your clothes...': First male victim of 'rape' by Hamas on October 7 recalls ordeal

"They push you to the ground, they take off your clothes...": First male victim of Oct. 7 Hamas "rape" recalls ordeal
Go away, laugh at me, humiliate me, spit on me," recalled a man who claims he was stripped and raped by Hamas terrorists during the Oct. 7 Israeli attack.
According to a Channel 12 report, the man, identified only as D because he did not want to give his name or be seen on camera, revealed for the first time how he and other men died during the Supernova music festival, allegedly being humiliated and assaulted. D said he was shocked to see how the terrorists were "celebrating and laughing" at him while people were dying around him.“They touched (private) parts try to masterbate you while they rape you,” he was quoted as saying.
"We were in a circle, and (people) were laughing. At that moment you didn't know what to do, to protect yourself or to let it go, how to deal with the situation. There was a very serious rape," D. recalled.
D said that at one point he had to stop to continue the attack as more people came and called out to him. Luckily, he and a few other survivors managed to escape with the help of the IDF.
"It's a very difficult moment. Weakness all over the body. It's like your blood is cheap." They were completely drunk, laughing and celebrating with guns and knives. You distance yourself from the situation," D. added.
D. said the attack made him feel like he was getting rid of the filth he experienced during the attack and turned him into a cleanliness freak.
"After everything that happened, I shower very often to get rid of all the energy," he said.
Israeli police have collected witness testimony, including that of D. and many others, to document the extent of the sexual assaults committed by the terrorists on October 7. The statement is part of a lawsuit filed by more than 100 music festival survivors seeking more than $137 million in federal aid. Many survivors are reportedly still struggling to resume normal lives. Earlier this year, the UN Secretary-General's report on sexual violence in conflict concluded that there were credible allegations of conflict-related sexual violence, including rape and gang rape, during the October 7 attacks in several locations around the Gaza Strip.

The report also cited evidence showing that some hostages held by Hamas have been raped and that hostages currently being held continue to be subjected to such abuse.
