India criticizes Canada for connecting minister Amit Shah with Sikh separatist conspiracy

Ottawa alleges that the prominent supporter of Indian PM Modi orchestrated a series of attacks and threats within Canada.

India refutes the claim that Home Minister Amit Shah conspired to harm Sikh activists on Canadian territory and condemns Canada for making unfounded accusations.

Shah, aged 60, supervises India’s domestic security agencies in his role as home minister. He is considered the second most influential person in the country after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On Saturday, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India's Ministry of External Affairs, informed reporters that New Delhi had summoned the Canadian High Commission's representative on Friday to express strong opposition. Jaiswal stated that the Indian government strongly protests the unfounded claims made by Canada's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Morrison, about Shah. According to the Canadian minister, Shah is seen as the mastermind behind the efforts against Sikh separatists in the country, including the murder of an activist.

The Canadian government has alleged that India orchestrated the 2023 slaying of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a 45-year-old Canadian citizen and prominent Khalistan supporter, in Vancouver. Modi's administration has labeled Sikh community Khalistan activists as "terrorists" and security risks. The activists are requesting the creation of a separate homeland called Khalistan within India.

Ceasefire in progress? Netanyahu advocates for 'Israeli security' in talks with US diplomats

Ceasefire in progress? Netanyahu advocates for 'Israeli security' in talks with US diplomats; Hamas, Hezbollah respond...

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting with US officials on Thursday amidst increasing demands for a ceasefire with Hamas and Hezbollah. The engagement occurred shortly after Hamas stated it would refuse any offer for a brief ceasefire during the current conflict in Gaza. Meanwhile, recently appointed Hezbollah leader Naim Kassem stated on Thursday that the militant group will continue to fight until it receives a 'acceptable' ceasefire proposal.

According to a report by Reuters, Netanyahu informed US officials that any ceasefire agreement with Lebanon should take into consideration Israel's ability to defend itself against threats from the neighboring country and repatriate displaced individuals to the north. "The primary concern is not the specifics of the agreement, but Israel's capacity and commitment to uphold the agreement and prevent any threats to its security from Lebanon," his office quoted the Prime Minister as saying. An AFP report cited sources familiar with the situation saying that mediators are anticipated to suggest a ceasefire of "less than a month" to Hamas in the near future. Encounters involving Mossad leader David Barnea, CIA Chief Bill Burns, and the prime minister of Qatar wrapped up in Doha recently.

The main topic of discussion centered around a temporary ceasefire lasting "less than a month". The suggestion includes swapping Israeli captives for Palestinians held in Israeli jails and boosting assistance to Gaza.

"The concept of a brief ceasefire in the conflict, with plans to resume hostilities later, is a matter we have already stated our stance on. "Hamas backs a lasting cessation of hostilities, not a temporary pause," stated senior Hamas official Taher al-Nunu in an interview with AFP on Thursday.

US ELECTION UPDATE

2024 US Election Update: Washington state deploys National Guard for potential election violence; Trump aims to disrupt election process

Washington state has called upon some National Guard members to be ready in case of any violence related to the 2024 election, as announced by the state’s governor on Friday. This action comes after concerns arose about possible disturbances during the upcoming election.

The state, where Democrat Kamala Harris is predicted to win over Republican Donald Trump based on polling data, recently experienced incidents where ballot boxes were set on fire. Early voting has already begun in Washington, with over 2 million ballots cast, according to the Election Lab at the University of Florida.

Governor Jay Inslee highlighted the need to be fully prepared for any potential violence or unlawful activities related to the 2024 general election, based on both general and specific information. His statement was posted on his official website on Friday.

US-Israeli Settlers Rooting for Trump in 2024 Election

As the US presidential election approaches, Americans residing in Israel are showing strong support for Republican candidate Donald Trump. Recent surveys indicate that the majority of Israelis, around 66 percent according to Israel’s Channel 12 News, are hoping for Trump's reelection.

During his previous term, Trump demonstrated his commitment to Israel by relocating the American embassy to Jerusalem, acknowledging Israeli control over the Golan Heights, and fostering diplomatic ties between Israel and several Arab nations under the Abraham Accords. Many Israelis anticipate continued support from Trump in combating various challenges involving Iran-backed militants in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran itself.

Delhi achieves second lowest air pollution levels after Diwali since 2015. Here are few reasons

Vehicles move on a road as air quality continues to remain poor, a day after Diwali festival celebrations, in    New Delhi, Friday morning, Nov. 1, 2024

Delhi achieves second lowest air pollution levels after Diwali since 2015. Here's the reason

Strong, sustained winds swept through Delhi, rapidly dispersing dense smoke layer and bringing AQI down to 339 by 4pm Friday, further improving to 323 by 7pm.

Delhi's air quality has been the second cleanest post-Diwali since 2015, maintaining a “very poor” Air Quality Index (AQI) instead of deteriorating to “severe". This stability is attributed to "strong wind ventilation", with speeds reaching 16 kilometers per hour.

While the 24-hour air quality index (AQI) climbed steadily through Thursday night — from 328 in the early evening to 338 at midnight, reaching 362 by 9am Friday — the city experienced an unexpected respite. Powerful, continuous winds swept across Delhi, quickly dispersing the thick layer of smoke and lowering the AQI to 339 by 4pm on Friday, further dropping to 323 by 7pm.

The use of fireworks, an increase in stubble burning, and emissions from various local sources that release harmful gases elevated the city's air quality to the higher end of the "very poor" range late Thursday night and into Friday morning. Mahesh Palawat, vice president at Skymet meteorology, elucidated the intricate relationship between temperature and pollution: "Higher temperatures maintain a high mixing height, allowing pollutants to move and disperse freely." Cold temperature decreases wind speed and causes pollutants to be trapped near the ground due to a process known as inversion.

During winter, the mixing height usually decreases to 200-300 meters, but on Thursday it remained at 2,100 meters. Despite poor air quality on Diwali, reaching severe levels at midnight, conditions improved rapidly the following day and reached moderate levels by afternoon. This occurs due to warm temperatures, moderate wind, and natural airflow. The intense tranquil winter inversion conditions have not arrived yet. Nevertheless, October has experienced a higher number of days with poor and very poor air quality compared to previous years.

Despite farm fires contributing only 1-3%, local and regional pollution has had a significant impact on air quality during this month," Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director of Research and Advocacy at the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) stated.
