Iran-Israel conflict: Ex-CIA chief predicts Trump will give Netanyahu ‘blank check’ for war. Former CIA director and US defense secretary Leon Panetta has made a bold statement regarding US president-elect Donald Trump and Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Panetta believes that once Trump assumes office, he will provide Netanyahu with unrestricted support in the Middle East, potentially leading to a full-scale war between Israel and Iran, as per The Guardian report. "I think he’s basically going to give Netanyahu a blank check," Panetta said about Trump's approach to the Middle East post his victory in the US presidential election. He will take over in January 2025.

"Whatever actions you take, whatever goals you pursue, whoever you choose to pursue, you have my approval. "I mean, he essentially stated that (prior to the election)," remarked Panetta. According to The Guardian, Netanyahu and the incoming US president were said to have communicated during the US election season. Netanyahu congratulated Trump on Wednesday, after Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris was confirmed.

“And so the real question there is whether Netanyahu decides to continue to try to expand that war, go after Iran, or do things that basically create an even greater concern about whether or not the Middle East is ever going to resolve itself or be in constant conflict,” observed Panetta.

Leon Panetta, 85, Panetta is vastly experienced, having been a congressman from California (1977-1993), White House budget chief and chief of staff to Bill Clinton (1993-97), and CIA director (2009-11) and secretary of defense (2011-13) under Barack Obama.

Reflecting on Donald Trump’s return, Panetta outlined a challenging foreign policy picture.

“As I’ve often mentioned in the past, we’re living in a very dangerous world. He stated that there are many potential areas of conflict, such as Russia and Ukraine, China and Taiwan, the Middle East, Iran, North Korea, and terrorism.

The GOP leader, scheduled to resume office at the White House in January, sustained a gunshot wound to his ear in a failed assassination bid in July.

The Justice Department identified Farhad Shakeri as an "Iranian asset" assigned by the Iranian government on October 7 to orchestrate Trump's assassination. Shakeri, 51, reportedly informed authorities that he did not plan to propose an assassination plot targeting Trump within the specified timeframe established by the IRGC, as stated by an official announcement. Iran has rejected the allegations.

"The Justice Department has accused an operative of the Iranian government who was assigned by the government to lead a group of criminal accomplices to advance Iran's assassination schemes against its targets, including President-elect Donald Trump," Attorney General Merrick B Garland stated. The US has labeled the IRGC as a terrorist organization. FBI director Christopher Wray stated that the accusations indicate Iran's ongoing efforts to harm US citizens, including President Trump and other government officials critical of the Iranian regime. "The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been collaborating with criminals and assassins to plot against and shoot Americans on US territory and that will not be accepted," he stated.

The report mentioned Shakeri had moved to the US as a kid and was expelled approximately in 2008 following his conviction in a theft incident. The prosecutors think Shakeri is currently in Iran.
