Elon Musk shares 23 messages encouraging King Charles III to take action against the UK government.

The backing that Elon Musk has shown for King Charles III to disband Parliament has resulted in political debate within the UK.

Musk has become a focal point for political discussions in the UK after suggesting that King Charles III close Parliament and initiate a new election.

The Tesla CEO promoted a post on social media that condemned the government's approach to tackling criminal gang activities in Manchester. "In the UK, serious offenses like rape need the approval of the Crown Prosecution Service to permit police to charge suspects. Who led the CPS while rape gangs were able to take advantage of young girls without facing consequences? Keir Starmer, 2008-2013," Musk wrote on X (previously known as Twitter) on New Year's Day.

"Who is currently leading Jess Phillips? Keir Starmer. The actual reason she's hesitating to investigate the rape gangs is that it would clearly implicate Keir Starmer [who was in charge of the CPS back then]," he added in a subsequent message.

"The King needs to intervene. We cannot have Keir in charge of the country when he was the one running the Crown Prosecution Service [CPS] during these events," he continued in the discussion.

Musk's engagement has faced backlash from the Labour Party.

In response to his statements, Health Secretary Wes Streeting described them as "ill-advised and definitely misinformed."

Bangladesh issues additional arrest order for exiled Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh issues additional arrest order for exiled Sheikh Hasina

Dhaka has previously issued a warrant for the arrest of Hasina, now 77, on accusations of crimes against humanity; she fled to India, a former ally, in August.

On Monday, a Bangladeshi court announced a second arrest order for the former leader Sheikh Hasina, who is now in exile, citing her supposed involvement in forced disappearances, according to the chief prosecutor.

Already facing a warrant for crimes against humanity, Hasina fled to India in August after being removed from power by a student-led uprising.

During her 15 years in office, numerous human rights violations occurred, including the mass incarceration and extrajudicial executions of opposition members.

Tajul Islam, the lead prosecutor at the domestic International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), stated that the new warrant pertains to cases of enforced disappearances during her leadership.

Reports claim that over 500 individuals were allegedly taken by Bangladeshi security forces, with some possibly held in undisclosed locations for extended periods.

Since Hasina's removal, several victims have started to share distressing details of their experiences.

"The court has issued warrants for Sheikh Hasina and 11 other individuals, which include her military advisor, members of the armed forces, and various law enforcement officials," Islam informed the media.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is anticipated to make a statement regarding his resignation as the head of the Liberal Party, according to local news reports from Sunday. The timing of this announcement remains uncertain, but it is likely to occur before an important national caucus assembly on Wednesday.

The Globe and Mail, referencing three insiders, reported that it is still not known whether Trudeau will resign immediately or continue to serve as prime minister until a new leader is appointed. This move is expected due to dwindling confidence in Trudeau's leadership. The governing Liberals are projected to lose their position, and lawmakers within his party are urging him to resign so that another leader can take charge.

The Liberals are facing the possibility of defeat after more than nine years in power, largely due to voter exhaustion and dissatisfaction with soaring costs and the housing crisis.

Recently, over 50 Liberal MPs from Ontario communicated during a call, expressing their belief that Trudeau must resign. Chandra Arya, a supporter of Trudeau, stated that a change in leadership is the only viable option.

Last December, Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland stepped down amid a disagreement over policies. Additionally, all opposition parties have stated their intent to band together to dismantle the minority Liberal government. However, Trudeau had previously stated that he does not intend to resign.

US Prepares for Winter Storm, Impacting Over 60 Million Residents

US Prepares for Winter Storm, Impacting Over 60 Million Residents

According to CNN, more than 60 million individuals across the nation were facing some form of weather alert, while FlightAware, a flight tracking service, recorded nearly 2,200 cancellations and over 25,000 delays in air travel.

A dangerous winter storm moved across a significant portion of the central United States on Sunday, tracking eastward and causing disruptions in travel and work from Kansas City to Washington.

As of Sunday afternoon, around a dozen states spanning from Kansas to New Jersey were subject to winter storm warnings, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Meanwhile, regions in the Southern US were at risk of tornadoes and cold weather.

According to CNN, more than 60 million individuals across the nation were facing some form of weather alert, while FlightAware, a flight tracking service, recorded nearly 2,200 cancellations and over 25,000 delays in air travel.

Strong winds associated with the first storm of the year created blizzard-like conditions in Kansas and Missouri, while states further to the east were covered with several inches of snow. Kentucky’s Governor Andy Beshear urged residents to "please stay at home" after numerous vehicle accidents resulted in the closure of a main highway.

The NWS also cautioned that some regions could experience up to half an inch of ice accumulation and significant tree damage due to strong wind gusts, which might result in "extended power outages."

Freezing rain, sleet, and snow began impacting Kansas early Sunday morning. Storm chaser Brian Emfinger reported on X that the roads surrounding Kansas City resembled "a skating rink."

Footage shared by the Weather Channel captured vehicles slipping off ice-covered roads and tractor trailers losing control in Kansas, where some locations anticipated over a foot (30 centimeters) of snow.

The NWS indicated in an update that "areas of heavy snow will push east through the Ohio Valley and central Appalachians tonight, reaching the northern Mid-Atlantic by Monday morning."

Regions around Washington might receive up to 10 inches of snow from Sunday night into Monday, causing "difficult travel and closures," according to the Washington Post.

This could complicate the plans of US lawmakers, who are constitutionally required to gather on Capitol Hill on January 6 to confirm the results of last year's presidential election.

"Whether we encounter a blizzard or not," House Speaker Mike Johnson mentioned on Fox News Sunday, "we cannot postpone that certification... I hope to see full attendance."

On Monday morning, Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, was detained by Bihar police while he was engaged in an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. According to reports, he was "forcibly" transported to AIIMS in an ambulance, where he is reportedly kept away from others.

It is said that Mr Kishor has declined any medical care and intends to persist with his fast until death.

“Prashant Kishor from the Jan Suraaj Party, along with several others, was unlawfully demonstrating near the Gandhi statue in Gandhi Maidan's restricted zone for their five demands. An FIR was filed at the Gandhi Maidan police station for this unauthorized protest. Despite multiple requests and ample time given, the area wasn't cleared,” stated Senior Superintendent of Police Awakash Kumar to the news agency IANS.

“Today, on January 6, he was taken into custody along with some of his supporters in the morning. They are in good health. Measures are being implemented to bring them before the court according to standard procedures,” SSP Kumar mentioned.

In footage shared by ANI, numerous Patna police officers are visible attempting to remove Mr Kishor from the protest area, while his fellow activists are seen trying to hold him back. The police also cleared other protesters from the site.

Canada halts applications for sponsorship of parents and grandparents

Canada halts applications for sponsorship of parents and grandparents: Important alterations to Immigration Rules in 2025

The hold will continue indefinitely until additional guidance is given by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Minister Marc Miller. Miller mentioned that this strategy is in line with the government's wider goals for immigration and family reunion.

Canada has stopped accepting fresh applications for the sponsorship of parents and grandparents for permanent residency within the Family Class category, as detailed in a directive from the minister.

The directive, released in the Canada Gazette, emphasizes the government’s dedication to family reunion while focusing on processing applications submitted the prior year.

Immigration Minister Marc Miller indicated that this strategy corresponds with the government’s larger immigration and family reunification goals. To tackle the ongoing backlog, other immigration pathways have also paused new sponsorship applications.

This hold will persist indefinitely until additional guidance is issued by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Minister Marc Miller.

The announcement in the Gazette notes, “These instructions aim to ensure that starting January 1, 2025, no new applications for permanent resident visas submitted by parents or grandparents of a sponsor, nor the related sponsorship applications, will be processed until further instructions are provided.”

While new applications for permanent residency are suspended, parents and grandparents can still submit an application for the supervisa, which is a long-term, multiple-entry visa.
