On Monday morning, Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, was detained by Bihar police while he was engaged in an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. According to reports, he was "forcibly" transported to AIIMS in an ambulance, where he is reportedly kept away from others.
It is said that Mr Kishor has declined any medical care and intends to persist with his fast until death.
“Prashant Kishor from the Jan Suraaj Party, along with several others, was unlawfully demonstrating near the Gandhi statue in Gandhi Maidan's restricted zone for their five demands. An FIR was filed at the Gandhi Maidan police station for this unauthorized protest. Despite multiple requests and ample time given, the area wasn't cleared,” stated Senior Superintendent of Police Awakash Kumar to the news agency IANS.
“Today, on January 6, he was taken into custody along with some of his supporters in the morning. They are in good health. Measures are being implemented to bring them before the court according to standard procedures,” SSP Kumar mentioned.
In footage shared by ANI, numerous Patna police officers are visible attempting to remove Mr Kishor from the protest area, while his fellow activists are seen trying to hold him back. The police also cleared other protesters from the site.
