Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that an agreement has been made regarding the release of hostages held in Gaza.

He indicated that he would gather his security Cabinet on Friday and subsequently the government to authorize the ceasefire deal.

On Friday, Netanyahu stated that the arrangement to free hostages in the Gaza Strip has been finalized, following reports from his office about last-minute issues that made concluding a ceasefire difficult after 15 months of conflict.

As reported by the Associated Press, Netanyahu mentioned that he plans to meet with his security Cabinet later on Friday, followed by a government session to endorse the long-anticipated agreement.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, "The State of Israel is dedicated to fulfilling all war objectives, including securing the return of all hostages, regardless of their status—alive or deceased."

Since October 7, 2023, Israel and Hamas have been engaged in intense conflict after militants from Gaza breached into Israel, resulting in the deaths of over 1200 citizens and the abduction of many. Following these events, Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of over 46,000 Palestinians.

Various human rights organizations have accused Israel of committing war crimes, a claim that Netanyahu’s administration has rejected.

Netanyahu’s remarks seem to pave the path for the Israeli government to endorse the agreement, which would halt hostilities in Gaza and lead to the release of numerous hostages held by militants in return for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody. It would also enable many displaced Palestinians to return to the remnants of their homes in Gaza.

On Thursday, Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of at least 72 individuals in the conflict-stricken area.

Israel had postponed a decision on Thursday concerning the ceasefire, attributing the delay to a late disagreement with Hamas, which complicated the approval process as rising tensions within Netanyahu's coalition government raised doubts about the deal's execution just one day after US President Joe Biden and key mediator Qatar declared it complete.
