The members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Amendment Bill, who have been suspended, accused their chairperson, BJP leader Jagdambika Pal, of subjecting them to humiliation. In response to the disorder that unfolded during the meeting on Friday, the opposition MPs sent a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, claiming that Pal decided to suspend them following a phone discussion with an unnamed individual.

On Friday, ten opposition members present at the parliamentary panel meeting regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill were suspended for a day amid allegations that Jagdambika Pal was bypassing proper procedures during the proceedings.

"In the meeting that commenced today at 11.00 AM, we, the opposition members, strongly voiced our concerns regarding the Chairman's handling of the session, while maintaining the highest respect. We pointed out the one-sided and inequitable way in which the JPC was being run, disregarding established rules and due processes. It is with respect that we mention, as per the notice that had been previously issued for meetings on the 24th and 25th, we organized our commitments in our respective Constituencies/States from the 27th to the 30th, as the Parliament Session is set to begin on the 31st, and thus requested the postponement of the meeting scheduled for the 27th," they expressed in the letter.
