Iranian pop artist Amir Tataloo receives death sentence for disrespecting the Prophet

Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, a 37-year-old underground artist, had resided in Istanbul since 2018 until he was transferred to Iran by Turkish authorities in December 2023.

According to local news sources, an Iranian court has upheld an appeal that resulted in a death sentence for the well-known artist after he was previously found guilty of blasphemy.

The reformist newspaper Etemad reported online that "The Supreme Court acknowledged the prosecutor's challenge" against an earlier five-year prison sentence connected to blasphemous acts.

It was mentioned that "The case has been reexamined, and the defendant has now received a death penalty for offending the prophet," specifically referring to Prophet Mohammed of Islam.

The article further noted that this ruling is not yet conclusive and remains open to further appeals.

The 37-year-old underground musician had been residing in Istanbul since 2018 before Turkish law enforcement transferred him to Iran in December 2023.
