30 Women Hurt In Crowded Scene At Maha Kumbh, Akharas Cancel Ritual Bath
Approximately 30 women sustained injuries when a chaotic scene emerged at the Maha Kumbh during the morning of Mauni Amavasya, leading the Akharas to cancel the sacred bath.
As millions of pilgrims entered the temporary settlement in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, in anticipation of the 'Amrit Snan', an influx of people caused barricades to collapse about a kilometer from the 'Sangam', resulting in some women losing consciousness. When these women fell, the situation escalated into a stampede. They were quickly transported to a medical facility within the Maha Kumbh fair area. Moreover, some who were more seriously hurt were transferred to Bailey Hospital and Swaroop Rani Medical College for treatment.
The president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Mahant Ravindra Puri, remarked that the saints have decided to forgo their Amrit Snan during Mauni Amavasya. "As you must have seen what transpired in the morning, we made this decision... All our sages and saints were prepared for the bathing ritual when we received word of this event. Consequently, we've chosen to cancel our 'snan' for 'Mauni Amavasya'," Mahant Ravindra Puri informed PTI.
