The government is not under any urgency to introduce ONOP as a bill during the upcoming winter session, according to sources. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet has approved a proposal for "one nation, one election", a significant step towards conducting Lok Sabha and state elections simultaneously. 

This move is expected to lower costs and simplify the voting process in the world's largest democracy. Despite speculation about the bill being presented in the winter session of Parliament, government sources emphasize the importance of consensus-building before proceeding with the legislation. 

The government is not feeling compelled to introduce the "one nation, one poll" (ONOP) as legislation during the upcoming winter session, according to sources. This comes following the submission of a report by a high-level panel led by former president Ram Nath Kovind to the Union Cabinet. Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Kiren Rijiju have been tasked with engaging in discussions with opposition parties regarding ONOP. Following the decision by the Cabinet, Prime Minister Modi remarked that it represents a significant advancement in enhancing the vibrancy and inclusivity of our democracy. 

The Cabinet has endorsed the suggestions put forth by the High-Level Committee on Simultaneous Elections. JP Nadda Highlighted Abuses against PM Modi by Congress members

 

The BJP has highlighted instances of derogatory remarks made against the Prime Minister by Congress leaders in response to Mallikarjun Kharge's concerns about BJP leaders' comments on Rahul Gandhi. BJP Chief JP Nadda expressed that the Congress continues to attempt to revive a rejected "failed product" in reference to Rahul Gandhi. Nadda also recalled Sonia Gandhi's use of the term "maut ka saudagar" (merchant of death) towards Prime Minister Modi, noting that such statements were praised by Kharge and the Congress party. "Has the Congress abandoned political decorum?" inquired Mr. Nadda, who also serves as the Union Health Minister.

Mr. Nadda stated that the country's oldest political party has morphed into a "copy and paste" party under the influence of Mr. Gandhi, adopting his negative traits.

According to Mr. Nadda, Congress leaders have resorted to name-calling, referring to the Prime Minister as a "snake", "scorpion", "demon", "pickpocket", and "coward". "Even his parents were insulted," stated Mr. Nadda. The BJP president criticized Mr. Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, for engaging in the politics of reservation and caste, and for fueling discord among the public.

"While abroad, he discusses eliminating reservation and depriving Dalit, backward classes, and tribal communities of their rights," he noted. Addressing an audience at a university in the United States, Mr. Gandhi stated that the Congress party would consider abolishing reservations only when "India becomes a just society," which, he pointed out, is not the current situation. The BJP seized upon the statement, asserting that the Congress leader's bias against reservation is now evident. Mr. Nadda claimed that it is the Congress party that has shown the greatest disrespect towards Indian democracy. "The Congress enacted an Emergency, supported triple talaq, disparaged Constitutional institutions, and undermined their strength."

The explosions of numerous pagers owned by Hezbollah members resulted in 12 fatalities and left thousands with severe injuries. Gallant stated that Israel is shifting northward by reallocating resources, energy, and forces at a military airbase in northern Israel on Wednesday. Gallant emphasized the need for boldness, determination, and perseverance in this new phase of the conflict. He stated that the objective is "to safely repatriate residents of the northern communities to their homes." 

The statement was made following the Security Cabinet's decision, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to broaden the goals of the conflict. The aim is to facilitate the return of displaced Israelis to border regions impacted by skirmishes with Hezbollah.

The Union cabinet has endorsed the recommendations put forth by a high-level committee regarding the implementation of 'One Nation, One Election' to conduct synchronized elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies. The process will be carried out in phases following a nationwide effort to build consensus. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the formation of an implementation group to carry out the recommendations of the panel led by former President Ram Nath Kovind. 

Detailed discussions on various aspects will be conducted across the country in the coming months. Vaishnaw disclosed that the transition to simultaneous elections will occur in two phases: firstly aligning Lok Sabha and assembly elections, followed by local body elections within 100 days of the first phase. 

The committee headed by Ram Nath Kovind has proposed 18 constitutional amendments, the majority of which do not require ratification by state assemblies. Certain Constitution amendment bills would need to be passed by Parliament in order for these to be implemented.
