The number of civilians killed in two Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon has risen to 10, state media reported on Thursday, marking the deadliest day in more than four months of cross-border conflict. Lebanese military group Hezbollah vowed to retaliate for attacks on the southern Lebanese city of Nabatiyah and a village just hours after heavy artillery fire from Lebanon killed one soldier.

The state news agency reported that part of a house was destroyed in the attack in Nabatieh and seven people from the same family, including a child, were killed. The teenager, who was first reported missing, was found alive under a rock. Initial reports showed four people dead. A woman and her two children were killed in the village of Souaneh. Six of the Lebanese dead were women and three children. Three Hezbollah members were also killed on Wednesday.

Fire from Lebanon hit the northern Israeli city of Safed early on Wednesday, killing a female Israeli soldier and wounding eight others. The death toll marks a sharp increase in cross-border contacts that lasted more than four months due to the incident in October. On the 7th, a war broke out between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The war began when Hezbollah's Palestinian ally Hamas attacked southern Israel. Public schools, universities and Lebanese universities will be closed on Thursday in protest of the airstrike.
