"Don't Run Away": Amit Shah Mocks Congress Over Exit Poll Boycott

The Congress' decision to forgo poll debate has given new ammunition ahead of the seventh Lok Sabha polls (in the final phase) in which the Bharatiya Janata Party is hoping for a historic third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After senior Congress leader Pawan Khera's announcement, Bharatiya Janata Party leader JP Nadda and chief strategist and Union minister Amit Shah said it was clear that the Opposition had conceded defeat. In a Hindi post on

X (formerly Twitter), Amit Shah said: "The Congress Party has found itself defeated by a landslide. How will she face the media and the people from now on? This is why the Congress Party is running away from post-election debates. I would like to urge the Congress Party to face its defeat head on and introspect instead of running away." "I expect a level of maturity from the largest opposition party," he said. The Congress would "stand back" if it did not expect an outcome in its favour. But the party would run if it believed it had even the slightest chance, he added. "Your hypocrisy is second to none. "No one taking part in phase seven should waste their vote for them," he said.

He also said that by boycotting polling on election day, the Congress was questioning the diligent efforts of several professional agencies who are working round the clock to tally the numbers.

Earlier today, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera had said there would be nothing to be gained from speculation once the polling is over.

"Results will be declared on June 4. There is no reason to get into speculation or brawls over TRPs before then," he said in a statement shared on X.

"The Indian National Congress will not take part in any debate on polling day. The purpose of any debate should be to inform people. I will be happy to take part in the debate starting June 4," Khera added.

Trump calls Hush Money Trial Very Unfair

Former US President Donald Trump announced that he would appeal his conviction in his New York hush-money trial, calling it "very unfair" and "unjust." On Thursday, a New York jury convicted Trump of multiple crimes in his hush-money trial, making him the first former US president to be convicted of a crime.

According to Reuters, Trump said in a speech at Trump Tower in Manhattan that "it was very unfair... You saw what happened to some of our witnesses. They were literally crucified." In his speech, Trump called his opponents "sick people" and "fascists."

He announced that he would appeal against 34 charges of falsifying business records, saying, "I intend to appeal this fraud..." But he will likely have to wait until after his verdict on July 11 before taking that step. "It's not hush money. It's completely legal, it's completely normal," he was quoted as saying about the incident.

President Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal the payment of hush money to stop porn star Stormy Daniels from going public with sexual encounter allegations that he feared could be fatal to his 2016 presidential campaign.

After Thursday's verdict, President Trump said he was "innocent." He angrily denounced the trial as a "disgrace," according to the Associated Press.

President Trump insisted he wanted to testify, which is his legal right, but was not allowed to. He also repeated unfounded allegations on Friday morning that President Joe Biden and the Department of Justice influenced the hush money trial in New York. Trump complained that the jury trial was unfair and frequently attacked Biden and illegal immigrants. They speak "unknown languages" and include many terrorists and "a lot of people" released from prison.

"They are coming to our country from all over the world, and we have a president and a bunch of fascists, and they don't want to do anything about it because they can stop it today, right now. But he won't do that. They are destroying our country," Trump said.

Trump called the committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol "thugs" and went on to call Biden a "Manchurian candidate," implying that the president is corrupt and that his political opponents are being used as puppets. "They are destroying our country," Trump said. "We live in a fascist state."

Trump faces three other felony charges, but the New York case is the first to go to trial and likely the only one before the November election. AFP reports that Trump is likely to face prison time, but is likely to receive a suspended sentence.

A Google Doodle on Saturday commemorated the continuation of India's democratic right to vote with the symbolic gesture of an inked index finger, signalling the final phase of voting in India's 2024 parliamentary elections.
In its Doodle, Google replaced its iconic logo with an image of an inked index finger raised up, a symbol synonymous with the democratic process of Indian elections.

Clicking on the doodle redirects users to search results with updates on the 18th Indian general election.

Google used similar doodles in the last six phases of the general election.

Lok Sabha Elections, 7th Phase:
Voting for the seventh and final phase of India's 18th Lok Sabha elections will take place on Saturday in 57 constituencies across eight states and union territories. Some high-profile names in the fray in this phase include prime minister Narendra Modi, who is eyeing a third term from Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, former union minister and BJP stalwart Ravi Shankar Prasad (Patna Sahib), Actress Kangana Ranaut (Mandi), Congress' Manish Tewari (Chandigarh), Samajwadi party leader Afzal Ansari (Ghazipur) and Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh (Karakat).
Overall, as many as 904 candidates are in the fray from these 57 constituencies, with over 10 crore people, eligible to vote.

The states and union territories where polling was held in the 7th phase are Bihar (8/40 seats), Himachal Pradesh (4/4), Jharkhand (3/14), Odisha (6/21), Punjab (13/13), Uttar Pradesh (13/80), West Bengal (9/42) and the Chandigarh Union territory. As voting closes, it would mark a grand finish to world’s largest polling marathon that began on April 19 and already covered 6 phases and 486 Lok Sabha seats.
What are Google Doodles?
Google Doodles are short, temporary modifications of the Google logo designed to celebrate various local and global themes, such as holidays, important dates, or influential people who have made notable contributions to society.

Delhi Excise Policy Case: ‘I have to surrender on June 2’, says CM Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said he has to surrender on June 2 and return to Tihar jail. On May 10, the Supreme Court of India granted him interim bail to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. The Enforcement Directorate had earlier arrested the AAP supremo in connection with the money laundering case linked to the excise policy case.

Addressing a press conference here, Kejriwal said, “The Supreme Court had given me 21 days to campaign for the elections. The day after tomorrow I will go back to Tihar Jail. I don't know how long these people will keep me in jail this time. But my spirits are high."

“I am proud that I am going to jail to save the country from dictatorship. They tried to break me in many ways, tried to silence me, but they (BJP) did not succeed. When I was in jail, they tortured me in many ways. They stopped my medicines... I don't know what these people wanted. Why did they do this?" he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Kanniyakumari on May 30, where he will meditate till June 1, marking the end of a rigorous poll campaign. Modi will embark on a 45-hour long meditation session at the famed Vivekananda Rock Memorial.

As he embarked on his visit down south, a 33-year-old image of the Prime Minister at the same location started doing rounds on social media. The image, dated December 11, 1991, shows a young Narendra Modi alongside BJP veteran Dr Murli Manohar Joshi during the Ekta Yatra.

The picture, which resurfaced on social media, has generated considerable buzz and is being shared widely across social media platforms.  The Ekta Yatra, or Unity March, was launched in December 1991 from Kanniyakumari and culminated on January 26, 1992, with the hoisting of the national flag in Srinagar. It was led by Murli Manohar Joshi and organised by a young Narendra Modi.

The yatra sent a clear message to the nation and the world that, India would stand firm and united against the forces of division and terror.

Meanwhile, PM Modi will meditate from the evening of May 30 to the evening of June 1 at Dhyan Mandapam, the place where Vivekananda -- a spiritual icon admired by Modi -- is believed to have had a divine vision about 'Bharat Mata'.

The PM had undertaken a similar exercise in a Kedarnath cave after the 2019 poll campaign.

Voting will be held on June 1 in 47 parliamentary constituencies across seven states and the union territory of Chandigarh. A total of 904 candidates are contesting in this phase.
