The Congress' decision to forgo poll debate has given new ammunition ahead of the seventh Lok Sabha polls (in the final phase) in which the Bharatiya Janata Party is hoping for a historic third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. X (formerly Twitter), Amit Shah said: "The Congress Party has found itself defeated by a landslide. How will she face the media and the people from now on? This is why the Congress Party is running away from post-election debates. I would like to urge the Congress Party to face its defeat head on and introspect instead of running away." "I expect a level of maturity from the largest opposition party," he said. The Congress would "stand back" if it did not expect an outcome in its favour. But the party would run if it believed it had even the slightest chance, he added. "Your hypocrisy is second to none. "No one taking part in phase seven should waste their vote for them," he said.

He also said that by boycotting polling on election day, the Congress was questioning the diligent efforts of several professional agencies who are working round the clock to tally the numbers.
Earlier today, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera had said there would be nothing to be gained from speculation once the polling is over.
"Results will be declared on June 4. There is no reason to get into speculation or brawls over TRPs before then," he said in a statement shared on X.

"The Indian National Congress will not take part in any debate on polling day. The purpose of any debate should be to inform people. I will be happy to take part in the debate starting June 4," Khera added.
