Czech police release first video of Nikhil Gupta's extradition to the US
Nikhil Gupta (52), an Indian national, was extradited to the US from the Czech Republic on June 14 after his arrest in Prague last year.
Czech police on Monday released the first images of Nikhil Gupta's extradition to the US. The Indian national is alleged to have been involved in a contract killing plot against Sikh extremist Gurpatwant Singh Panun on American soil.
Nikhil Gupta (52) was extradited to the US from the Czech Republic on Friday, June 14, after his arrest in Prague a year ago.
Czech police posted a video on social media platforms purporting to show Nikhil Gupta being "safely transported from Prague airport." Video images were posted showing the Indian national (whose face has been blurred) being escorted onto a plane. Earlier, Czech Justice Minister Pavel Blazek confirmed that Nikhil Gupta had been extradited to the US.
"Following my decision (on June 3), Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, was extradited to the United States on Friday (June 14) for prosecution on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder by oath with intent to murder," Pavel said. Posted by Blazek
The US Department of Justice said the alleged murderer, Nikhil Gupta, "has been a vocal critic of the Indian government and heads a US-based organisation which advocates for the separation of Punjab."
The Ministry of External Affairs said it had set up a "high-level" investigation committee to look into the case.
