Singapore PM Lawrence Wong hosts a private dinner for PM Modi

Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong hosts a private dinner for Prime Minister Modi before their official discussions.

PM Modi landed in Singapore as part of his two-country tour in Southeast Asia, following his historic visit to Brunei as the first Indian Prime Minister to do so.

On Wednesday, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong welcomed his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for a private dinner before their scheduled discussions on Thursday, which are anticipated to boost collaboration in important sectors like digitalization and semiconductors.

PM Modi arrived in Singapore as part of a two-nation tour of Southeast Asia, following his historic visit to Brunei, where he became the first Indian Prime Minister to make a bilateral visit to the country. Upon arriving, he was welcomed at the airport by Singapore's Minister for Home Affairs, K Shanmugam.

Wong invited Modi to a private dinner at the Istana, the presidential palace traditionally used for hosting and entertaining state visitors. Video released by the office of the Singapore Prime Minister depicted the two leaders hugging and engaging in conversation prior to the dinner, where they were accompanied by key aides including external affairs minister S Jaishankar and Singapore's foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

Wong expressed his joy at the opportunity to meet for a meal at the Istana before the scheduled meetings the following day. Modi mentioned in a different post that he had a "great conversation about various topics". He further stated, "India values its strong bond with Singapore."

Modi previously expressed his anticipation for upcoming meetings that aim to enhance the friendship between India and Singapore. India's youth power combined with the country's reforms make it a prime choice for investment. He added that they are also excited about strengthening cultural connections.

Modi and Wong are scheduled to discuss strategies for enhancing cooperation in various fields during their meeting on Thursday. They aim to build on the outcomes of the recent India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, which identified advanced manufacturing and connectivity as emerging areas for partnership. The two parties will announce approximately five agreements, with a significant focus on collaboration in the semiconductor industry.

External affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that this visit holds significance in enhancing India's Act East policy, its vision of the Indo-Pacific, economic ties with Singapore, and technological collaboration between the two countries.

After receiving a formal greeting at the Parliament House on Thursday, Modi will also have meetings with senior minister Lee Hsien Long, emeritus senior minister Goh Chok Tong, and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Where is Trump vs Harris race headed on the poll of polls?

Where is the race between Trump and Harris heading in the aggregate polling data?

Kamala Harris is currently ahead of Donald Trump in the polls for the televised debate on September 10th. The disparity between genders has grown even larger in the period following the Democratic National Committee.

Kamala Harris has emerged as a formidable competitor in the presidential campaign against Donald Trump after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July. Ever since that time, her name has risen significantly in various polls determining the climate of the struggle leading up to the elections in November. The Democratic and Republican contenders for president are engaged in a heated tug-of-war, with polls showing varying levels of support for each candidate.

A recent survey in swing states by the Telegraph has forecasted that the Harris campaign will come out on top in the November election, as she has been increasing her lead over Trump's numbers for weeks.

According to a poll by Redfield & Wilton Strategies for the publication, Harris is expected to win the crucial states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Similar to Biden's successful campaign in 2020, Harris is said to be counting on backing from the Rust Belt states in the Midwest. At the same time, Trump is forecasted to prevail in the Sun Belt toss-up states of Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina. They are both even at 47% in Nevada.

Why was there no fact-checking done: Insider Information on the questions posed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to Netflix in relation to the controversy surrounding the IC 814 Kandahar Hijacking incident.

The utilization of non-Muslim pseudonyms for the hijackers from Pakistan has annoyed internet users and Bharatiya Janata Party, leading to demands to avoid watching the film directed by Anubhav Sinha.

The discussion between the secretary of the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry and Netflix executives regarding the inaccurate portrayal of events in the latest series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, reportedly went on for more than 60 minutes on Tuesday, as per insiders.

The hijackers from Pakistan using non-Muslim codenames and alleged acts of compassion has caused irritation among internet users and the Bharatiya Janata Party, leading to demands for boycotting the film directed by Anubhav Sinha. Noting the public anger, the ministry called for a meeting with Netflix officials on Monday to inquire about why the show shouldn't be removed from airing and why no disciplinary measures should be taken against them.

The director of the series, Anubhav Sinha, is being accused by the government of "making a crime against the country seem like something ordinary, planned and assisted by Pakistan's ISI".

Arrested Principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandip Ghosh suspended

The Health Department of West Bengal took action on Tuesday by suspending the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. [Name]. Sandip Ghosh's employment was terminated immediately after he was arrested and an ongoing criminal investigation is underway regarding suspected financial misconduct at the government-owned establishment.

Due to the current criminal inquiry involving Professor \n Sandip Ghosh, former Head of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, Professor. Dr. Ghosh has been suspended under Rule 7(1c) of West Bengal Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1971 with immediate effect, according to an office order from the West Bengal Health Department.

Earlier today, a unique CBI court in Kolkata delivered Ghosh and three others to 8-day CBI custody, a day after they were detained in relation to purported financial discrepancies at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

On Monday, Ghosh and three others - Biplav Singha (a seller), Suman Hazar (a vendor), and Afsar Ali (additional security to Ghosh) were detained by the anti-corruption division of CBI for their involvement in suspected corruption and financial mismanagement at the state-owned institution.

Mongolia was intended to apprehend Russia's President Putin

Mongolia was intended to apprehend Russia's President Putin yesterday evening. It did not happen, and now it is in a difficult situation.

There is nothing exceptional about the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Mongolia on Tuesday - he is scheduled to meet with the leader of the country, have discussions on enhancing bilateral relations, and participate in a formal reception.

What's odd is that Mongolia, being a participant in the International Criminal Court, would detain the Russian leader upon his arrival in Mongolia on Monday evening.

Putin is the focus of a global arrest warrant that was issued by the ICC in March 2023. The court accused him of committing war crimes, specifically targeting the illegal removal of children from Ukraine to Russia.

During that period, the Kremlin denounced the ICC's actions as "outrageous and unacceptable" and stated that they did not have any impact on Russia, as Russia is not a part of the ICC.

Mongolia is currently facing a difficult situation as Putin makes a visit to the country, marking his first visit to an ICC member state since the arrest warrant was issued, seemingly without any consequences.

In accordance with the Rome Statue, the inaugural agreement of the International Criminal Court (ICC) that became operative in 2002, ICC member countries are required to apprehend and hand over to the court any individuals who are targeted by an ICC warrant for arrest, if they enter their territory.

The court lacks the means to enforce the regulation, but Mongolia disregarded it by greeting Putin with a protective detail as he visited President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh in the city, Ulaanbaatar, on Tuesday.
