Notably, the majority of these displaced persons are part of the 111,000 individuals who have been displaced since October. "It is probable that individuals have been relocated involuntarily," stated the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Hezbollah verified on Tuesday that Israel had eliminated its leader of rocket forces, Ibrahim Kobeissi, in an attack on Beirut.

Prime Minister Netanyahu postponed his trip to New York until Thursday, where he is also scheduled to address the General Assembly.

Despite international appeals for moderation, Israel's leader has refused to heed them.

"We are committed to persistently targeting Hezbollah... "The individual who possesses a missile in their living quarters and a rocket within their domicile will find themselves without a residence," he declared on Tuesday.

Iran, the primary supporter of Hezbollah, denounced Israel's airstrikes, with supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stating that the recent deaths of Hezbollah leaders would not defeat the group.

"Some of Hezbollah's capable and esteemed members were martyred, resulting in damage to the group. However, this setback is not significant enough to weaken the organization," he remarked.

Elusive attempts at achieving a ceasefire

Although there have been frequent skirmishes along the Israel-Lebanon border for the past year, tensions escalated significantly last week following coordinated explosions blamed on Israel by Hezbollah, resulting in the deaths of 39 individuals and injuries to nearly 3,000.

Subsequently, Israel conducted an airstrike in Hezbollah's stronghold in southern Beirut, killing a senior military commander along with other combatants and civilians.

Efforts to resolve the conflict in Gaza, which are considered crucial in halting the escalation in Lebanon, have so far not progressed.

Critics have accused Netanyahu of deliberately prolonging Gaza ceasefire negotiations and prolonging the conflict in order to appease extremist coalition partners.

The conflict in Gaza was initiated by Hamas on October 7 with an attack on Israel, leading to the deaths of 1,205 individuals, primarily civilians, as reported by AFP based on Israeli official statistics including hostages who died while in captivity.

Out of the 251 hostages abducted by Hamas operatives, 97 remain detained in Gaza, including 33 individuals confirmed deceased by the Israeli military.

Israel's retaliatory military actions have resulted in the deaths of at least 41,495 people in Gaza, the majority of whom are civilians, according to figures released by the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled region. The figures have been deemed reliable by the United Nations.

The missile, carrying a dummy warhead, was launched by the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force (PLARF) at 8:44 am Beijing time on Wednesday. The launch comes at a time of growing international scrutiny of China’s nuclear arsenal, prompting statements of concern from several nations. The Chinese defense ministry stated that the missile launch was a component of their annual training plan and that the missile landed in predetermined sea areas. It refrained from offering additional information, stating only that the launch was not aimed at any particular country or target. 

According to a report from the state-run Xinhua news agency, China had informed the relevant nation or nations beforehand, without specifying them. 

The Guardian verified with Philippine authorities that two Notams, pertaining to sea and air navigation, were issued for regions to the northwest and northeast of the country on Monday, and were linked to the launch. The NOTAMs referenced special operations carried out by China, but it remains uncertain if the Philippines received prior notification of the ICBM launch. Japan's senior government spokesperson, Yoshimasa Hayashi, stated to reporters on Wednesday that Japan had not been informed in advance of the launch and expressed deep unease over China's swift military expansion. The Taiwan defence ministry reported detecting "intensive" Chinese missile firing and other drills, but declined to provide additional information.

Allahabad HC Asks UOI About Status Of BJP Worker's Representation cancel Rahul Gandhi's Indian Citizenship

 

The Allahabad High Court inquired about the status of a representation made by a BJP worker to the Union of India seeking cancellation of Rahul Gandhi's Indian citizenship. The representation was made under Section 9(2) of the Citizenship Act, 1955. This request was made in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a BJP Member from Karnataka, urging a CBI investigation into the alleged British Citizenship of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.

Justices Rajan Roy and Om Prakash Shukla directed ASG Surya Bhan Pandey to seek instruction from the Union Home Ministry regarding the representation. Vignesh Shishir, present in person, asserted that he submitted a comprehensive representation cum complaint to the Foreigners Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, seeking the cancellation of Gandhi's Indian citizenship. 

The Division issued this order upon taking into account a previous PIL petition by the same petitioner, which was withdrawn and provided the petitioner the option to approach the competent authority under Section 9(2) of the Citizenship Act, 1955 within legal limits. The PIL petitioner informed the Court during today's hearing that his previous petition, which was dismissed in July, was being revisited.
