Upon a 2.5-hour flight, an Air India Express (AIX) aircraft successfully performed an emergency landing at Tiruchirapalli airport with 140 passengers on board. The aircraft encountered technical difficulties soon after departure and circled above the city to expend excess fuel before heading back to the airport. Airport officials made preparations for a potential emergency by mobilizing ambulances and firefighting vehicles. It was later disclosed by the airline that the pilots of flight AIX613 to Sharjah did not officially declare an emergency. As per Air India, the aircraft circled the specified area multiple times as a precautionary measure to reduce fuel and weight, following a report of a technical issue. This was done in preparation for a safe precautionary landing due to the runway length. We have been made aware of media reports concerning an Air India Express flight operating on the Tiruchirappalli - Sharjah route. In a statement, the airline confirmed that the operating crew did not declare an emergency. "In the meantime, a replacement aircraft is being arranged for the continuation of our guests' journey." Air India Express' Spokesperson expressed regret for the inconvenience and reiterated the airline's commitment to prioritizing safety across all operations. Trichy District Collector Pradeep Kumar addressed a technical issue encountered by the Air India Express flight from Tiruchirappalli to Sharjah, noting, "There was a landing issue in a flight which is from Tiruchirapalli to Sharjah." He clarified that upon identifying the problem, officials quickly collaborated with the airport and air traffic control.
