Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hammadi, a prominent commander of Hezbollah and long-time fugitive on the FBI's most-wanted list, was killed outside his residence in eastern Lebanon. As reported by the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, Hammadi was shot outside his home on Tuesday evening. He held the position of commander in Hezbollah’s western al-Baqaa region and was attacked by assailants who arrived in two separate vehicles.
Despite immediate transportation to a medical facility, Hammadi was declared dead shortly after the incident. The reason for his assassination is still uncertain. While some local sources have suggested that the killing could be related to an ongoing family dispute, no official confirmation has been provided to support this claim. Currently, no individual or organization has taken responsibility for the shooting.
For decades, Hammadi was wanted by the FBI due to his participation in a notable terrorist incident. In 1985, he was the hijacker of Lufthansa Flight 847, a West German airline with 153 people on board, which included multiple American citizens. During this ordeal, one American was subjected to torture and subsequently killed. His actions, along with others targeting Western interests, led to his prominent listing as a wanted criminal by US law enforcement.
