Qatar has released eight former Indian officers who were sentenced to death on charges against Israel.

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) thanked Doha on Monday for announcing the release of the octet. Details of their arrest, detention and transfer are still unclear.

In its statement in New Delhi, the Ministry said, "We appreciate the decision of the Emir of Qatar to release these people and send them back to their country." said.

The men were reportedly arrested in August 2022 on charges of passing ocean-related information to Israeli intelligence agencies. Neither Qatar nor India confirmed this claim.

It was a great shock in India last year when the court sentenced them to death penalty and appealed.

The State Department confirmed in December that consular access rights were granted. Later that month, the appeals court was said to have sentenced them to death in various prisons.

He said seven of them returned to India on Monday. No further details were available about the eighth man, his release conditions or the current status of the case.

The arrest of these men was reported in the Indian and Arab media last year.

Eight people are senior employees of Dahra Global Technologies and Services. Unconfirmed reports in India say the company has advised Qatar on a plan to purchase high-tech Italian-made submarines that can evade radar detection. Private company was closed.

The case, which briefly affected relations, does not seem to have a major impact on relations between the two friends, New Delhi and Doha.
