Bangladesh riots: Are ISI and China linked in a plot to kill Sheikh Hasina?
Bangladesh riots: Are ISI and China linked in a plot to kill Sheikh Hasina? Almost a month after anti-reservation protests swept Bangladesh, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the conflict-torn country. India's neighbor is now on the brink as it awaits the formation of a new government. At least 100 people have died in the chaos and insecurity that has gripped Bangladesh since the departure of one of its top leaders.
Are China and ISI behind the sudden regime change in Bangladesh? Intelligence reports suggest that the plan for the regime change operation implemented in Bangladesh was drawn up in London in collaboration with Pakistan's ISI.
Bangladeshi officials have claimed to have evidence of meetings between Bangladesh National Party (BNP) incumbent president Tarique Rahman and ISI officials in Saudi Arabia. The Pakistan Army and the ISI wanted to destabilize Sheikh Hasina's government and delay the BNP's rise to power.
Involvement of Jamaat-e-Islami
Moreover, the student protests against reservation in government jobs, which led to Hasina's resignation, turned into a broader political movement aimed at ousting her government. The student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), is the main architect of the student protests and ensuing chaos. During the last two years, many ICS cadres have gained admission in various universities of Bangladesh. This gave SHKB an opportunity to motivate students. The main centers of ICS are Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Jahangir University and Sylhet University.
The BNP and its affiliates, including its media cell and student wing, manufactured most of the anti-Awami League messages, videos of violence against protesters and posters demonizing Sheikh Hasina, according to intelligence reports. . Many of these messages are also amplified by US-based accounts. According to some sources, a significant part of the funding received by SHKB comes from Chinese entities operating in Pakistan.
The new interim government in Bangladesh
Meanwhile, students protesting across the country called for the formation of an interim government in the country, with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus as chief adviser. The protesters also said they will not accept any government supported or led by the military.
Khaleda Zia can get first place in Bangladesh. He is the president of the BNP, the country's main opposition party. Zia served as the country's prime minister from 1991 to 1996, but was jailed in 2018 on corruption charges.
The 78-year-old BNP president was released from jail shortly after Sheikh Hasina fled to Bangladesh. There is also the possibility of Jamaat-e-Islami entering into an Islamist coalition with BNP and forming the government.
Jaishankar is expected to make a statement in Parliament on the Bangladesh crisis
Jaishankar is expected to make a statement in Parliament on the Bangladesh crisis
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will make a statement on Tuesday in Parliament on the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.
The Committee on Security (CCS) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi met and discussed the issue on Monday. The meeting was attended by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Hasina arrived in India as part of her plan to visit London, several diplomatic sources said shortly after the Bangladesh Air Force C130J military transport plane carrying the Awami League chief landed in Hindon in Ghaziabad.
But that plan appeared uncertain on Monday evening, as British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said in London that the people of Bangladesh "deserve a full and independent UN-led investigation into the events of the 'last weeks'. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, accompanied by senior officials, met Hasina at the Hindon Air Base and said she conveyed India's position on the developments in Bangladesh, sources said.
It is understood that Hasina has been moved to a safe place after the meeting and is unlikely to leave India on Monday evening. India has yet to comment on the developments in Bangladesh. Jaishankar is expected to make a statement in Parliament on Tuesday on the situation in the neighboring country.
HC confirms Kejriwal's CBI arrest
HC confirms Kejriwal's CBI arrest: BJP says verdict proves role of CM, AAP to approach Supreme Court
The Delhi BJP claims that the Supreme Court verdict implicates Kejriwal in a scam and demands his resignation. AAP will challenge the decision in the Supreme Court, citing technicalities.
After the Delhi High Court ruled on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging the legality of his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a case of alleged political irregularities of excise duty now scrapped from 2021 to 2022, the Delhi BJP said: judgment "clearly shows" that Kejriwal "played a major role" in the scam and was the mastermind. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), meanwhile, said it will challenge the Supreme Court's decision in the Supreme Court. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said, "The Supreme Court verdict has clarified the fact that Arvind Kejriwal and his party have looted Delhi, a fact that the BJP has repeated time and again."
“It is necessary for Arvind Kejriwal to resign from his post for the smooth functioning of the administration and to serve the people of Delhi. "The Delhi government is paralyzed and the entire administrative system is at a standstill, and Kejriwal's insistence on making the government from prison has resulted in zero governance in Delhi," Sachdeva said.
The AAP hit back, saying the BJP was trying to mislead the public.
In a statement, the AAP said: "The application to the Supreme Court challenged some technical aspects of the law, such as non-compliance with some legal provisions by the prosecution. The CBI case has not been decided on on the merits. We respectfully disagree with KL and will challenge it in the Supreme Court."
“The ED case was decided on its merits and it was concluded that there is no evidence against Arvind Kejriwal ji. "The special court and the Supreme Court have already granted bail," AAP said.

Sheikh Hasina Resigns Sheikh Hasina meets National Security Adviser Ajit Doval at Hindon Air Base
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned today and left Dhaka by helicopter after thousands of protesters stormed her palace. Protesters broke down the gates of Sheikh Hasina's official residence, prompting her to leave the country by helicopter. Sheikh Hasina landed at Hindon air base near Ghaziabad and is on her way to London, diplomatic sources said. It was received by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval at Hindon Air Force base.
Sheikh Hasina, 77, the leader of the Awami League and three-time prime minister of Bangladesh, resigned today amid a 45-minute ultimatum from the military and took a flight from the violence-torn country to a destination unknown This is probably familiar territory for a leader who began his political journey in exile after his father was killed by Bangladeshi army officers.
The son of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday called on the country's security forces to block any checks, as hundreds of thousands of protesters called for her resignation.
"Your duty is to protect our people and our country and defend the constitution," US-based Sajeeb Wazed Joy said in a Facebook post.
Bangladesh army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said the army would form an interim government. At least 300 people have been killed in more than a month of deadly protests. The protests have intensified despite the bill that Bangladesh's highest court has been resized.
