"Oh Canada": Donald Trump Unveils New US Map Amid Debate

On his social media site Truth Social, the soon-to-be US president posted a map depicting Canada as included within the United States, captioned, "Oh Canada!" Following a hint at the "beginning of America's golden age," the president-elect presented a revised map that shows Canada as part of the US. This development occurred shortly after Mr. Trump indicated he could utilize "economic force" to integrate Canada into the US.

On the social media platform Truth Social, the incoming leader of the US released a map illustrating Canada as integrated into the US, accompanied by the phrase, "Oh Canada!" Just before his post, Donald Trump reiterated his proposal for Canada to become the 51st state while suggesting the use of "economic force" for the assimilation of Canada into the US.

While addressing the media at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida shortly after his electoral win was confirmed, Trump remarked, "If we eliminate that artificially created boundary and observe what it would resemble, it would significantly enhance national security." He added, "Canada and the US together would be quite remarkable."

He also expressed worries regarding Canada’s defense budget, stating, "Their military is quite limited. They depend on our military. That’s acceptable, yet they must contribute to that. It’s rather inequitable."

When questioned if he would resort to military interventions to bring Canada under control, the soon-to-be president replied, "No, economic measures."

Pledging to "quickly revitalize the economy," Mr. Trump stated, "We are nearing the start of America’s golden era."

Subsequently, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to Trump's assertions, stating that uniting the nations is not an option. "There isn’t even the faintest chance that Canada would merge with the United States. Both our countries gain from being each other's largest trade and security partners," Mr. Trudeau posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

One body recovered from flooded Indian mine as rescuers search for trapped men

One deceased miner was retrieved from a submerged coal mine in a secluded area of Assam, a northeastern state in India, on Wednesday, two days following the onset of the search for nine men trapped underground.

Officials and a state minister mentioned that the mine, which has a depth of 300 feet and consists of various underground passages, likely flooded on Monday morning after the workers encountered an underground water source.

The magnitude of the flooding posed challenges to the rescue efforts on Tuesday. However, skilled divers re-entered the mine early Wednesday and successfully recovered a body, according to Assam's chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on X.

Authorities have indicated that this mine operates illegally.

"We couldn't see the body due to complete darkness inside; we located it by touch, which allowed us to bring it out," one of the divers recounted to a local news outlet after the recovery. The military has sent in divers, helicopters, and engineers to aid the rescue operations in the hilly Dima Hasao district of Assam.

"It's hard to predict how long the rescue will take because we've been informed that there are small openings within the mine," stated H P S Kandhari, a commandant from the National Disaster Relief Force, the federal organization tasked with such missions, in an interview with news agency ANI.

126 dead, 188 hurt as strong quake strikes Tibet; shakes felt in Kathmandu, sections of North India

Nepal is situated along a significant geological fault where the Indian tectonic plate presses against the Eurasian plate, giving rise to the Himalayas, leading to frequent earthquakes.

On Tuesday morning, a powerful earthquake hit the Tibet area, resulting in at least 126 fatalities and 188 injuries.

The tremor occurred at 9:05 am local time (01:05 GMT) at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), with the China Earthquake Networks Center reporting a magnitude of 6.8, while the United States Geological Survey recorded it as 7.1.

“By 7:00 pm (1100 GMT) Tuesday, it has been confirmed that 126 individuals lost their lives, and 188 were hurt,” Xinhua stated.

As a result of the quake, vibrations were experienced in Kathmandu, the capital of neighboring Nepal, and in several northern Indian states, especially Bihar, where residents were observed fleeing from their homes. Nonetheless, there have been no reports of property damage.

The Bihar Disaster Management Department noted that tremors were felt in Patna, Madhubani, Sheohar, Munger, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Katihar, Darbhanga, West Champaran, East Champaran, and various other regions along the India-Nepal border.

Residents of Katihar, Purnea, Sheohar, Darbhanga, and Samastipur also took to the streets during the earthquake's occurrence.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) documented the earthquake at 6:35 am and indicated that two additional quakes struck the area shortly after the initial one.

The second quake, measuring 4.7, occurred at 7:02 am at a depth of 10 km, while a third quake recorded at 4.9 took place at 7:07 am, reaching a depth of 30 km.

Central authorities dispatched disaster relief supplies, including tents, quilts, and other essentials suited for high-altitude and cold environments, to the regions affected by the tremor, according to Xinhua.

This high-altitude area in Tibet is home to approximately 62,000 residents and is located on the Chinese side of Mount Everest.

While seismic activity is typical for the area, the quake on Tuesday was noted as the most powerful in the past five years within a 200-kilometre range, as indicated by the CENC.

Nepal is situated along a significant geological fault where the Indian tectonic plate presses against the Eurasian plate, giving rise to the Himalayas, leading to frequent earthquakes.

BPSC Exam Leak: Supreme Court declines to hear request for exam cancellation

BPSC Exam Leak: Supreme Court declines to hear request for exam cancellation

The Supreme Court indicated that it would be more suitable and quicker for the individual to go to the Patna High Court to request the annulment of the BPSC's 70th Combined Competitive Exams (preliminary).

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court did not accept a request for the cancellation of the 70th Combined Competitive Exams (preliminary) held by the Bihar Public Services Commission (BPSC) due to allegations of a paper leak, advising the applicant to first approach the Patna High Court.

Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna led a three-judge panel and stated that the Supreme Court should not be the initial court for all matters, recommending that the litigants seek relief from the High Court. The representative for the petitioner, Anand Legal Aid Forum Trust, brought up the issue of the police lathi-charge against demonstrators who were protesting the alleged leak. He informed the panel, which included Justices Sanjay Kumar and K V Viswanathan, that "the entire country has witnessed the Bihar Police's harsh treatment of the protesters with their lathi charges."
