ISRO Test For Landmark Space Docking, Satellites Approach Within 3 Meters
ISRO Test For Landmark Space Docking, Satellites Approach Within 3 Meters
The satellites are being maneuvered to create what ISRO has termed an "exciting handshake" in outer space. According to a statement from the Indian space agency today, two Indian satellites have successfully reached a proximity of three meters during a trial for docking in space, and they are now retracting. Following this, they will approach one another at a rate of 10 millimeters per second.
"The trial to distance the satellites to 15 meters and then bring them to 3 meters has been completed. The spacecrafts will be repositioned to a secure distance. The docking operation will proceed after further analysis of the data," the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) noted in its most recent announcement regarding the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission.
With this endeavor, India is poised to join the ranks of the fourth nation to accomplish such a milestone, which will assist the country in upcoming space missions like the Bharatiya Antariksh Station and Chandrayaan 4.
ISRO had rescheduled the historic docking of the two satellites twice, with its leader, Dr. S Somnath, stating that this is India's initial attempt at docking and that every inaugural attempt presents its own difficulties.
"The docking procedure will only commence once all sensors are thoroughly calibrated and validated. All algorithms and scenarios undergo testing on the ground prior to sending commands to the spacecraft for autonomous docking," Mr. Somnath previously mentioned.

EAM Jaishankar to represent India at Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20
Jaishankar is set to hold discussions with representatives from the new administration and other notable figures present at the occasion during his trip.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has been designated to stand for India at the inauguration ceremony for President-elect Donald J Trump, who will become the 47th President of the United States of America.
Jaishankar is scheduled to participate in discussions with members of the incoming administration along with other dignitaries included in the gathering during his visit.
“In a statement, the Centre noted that External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S. Jaishankar has been invited by the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee to represent the Government of India at the Swearing-In Ceremony of President-Elect Donald J Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America.”
On January 20, Donald Trump will officially be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. At noon Eastern Time, Trump will take the presidential oath of office before the Capitol in Washington, D.C., with the Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts officiating.
Prior to Trump’s inauguration, the Vice President-elect JD Vance will have his swearing-in ceremony. Last month, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) revealed that the theme for the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies will be “Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise.”

ISRO delays ambitious satellite docking trial: 'Satellites secure'
The event was initially set for the morning of January 9, having been pushed back from January 7 to this new date.
On Wednesday, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) again announced the postponement of its groundbreaking satellite docking experiment involving two spacecraft in orbit.
“During an attempt to maneuver to a distance of 225 meters between the satellites, the drift was observed to exceed expectations following a period of non-visibility,” ISRO stated in a post on X. “The docking intended for tomorrow has been delayed. The satellites are secure.”
ISRO is working toward conducting its bold satellite docking experiment with two spacecraft in orbit. If successful, India will join the ranks of the fourth nation worldwide to possess satellite docking capabilities.
