Donald Trump announces tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China; White House states 'no exclusions'
Donald Trump declared that he is fulfilling his campaign commitment to halt the influx of unauthorized immigrants and narcotics crossing into the United States.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has enforced a 25% tariff on products from Canada and Mexico, along with a 10% tariff on Chinese goods, citing a "national emergency" due to illegal immigration and fentanyl, according to White House representatives.
Trump had been vocal about his intentions to introduce these tariffs to encourage better collaboration from neighboring nations in preventing “illegal immigration” and the trafficking of substances related to fentanyl. Additionally, the U.S. leader has committed to using tariffs to enhance domestic production and generate revenue for the federal treasury. Keep following LIVE updates here.
“Today, I have put in place a 25% Tariff on goods coming from Mexico and Canada (10% on Canadian energy), and a 10% tariff on imports from China. This action was taken under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) due to the serious risk posed by illegal immigrants and lethal drugs, such as fentanyl, threatening our Citizens. It is crucial to protect the American public, and as President, it is my responsibility to guarantee their safety. I pledged during my Campaign to stop the influx of unauthorized immigrants and drugs across our Borders, and the American people strongly supported this initiative,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
