Hamas should surrender and disarm-Netanyahu

Hours after the confirmation of the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a message to the people of Gaza, stating that the conflict could come to an end as early as the following day if Hamas agrees to disarm and release the hostages. Netanyahu shared a video announcing Sinwar's death, emphasizing the possibility of peace if certain conditions are met. He was fatally wounded in Rafah by the courageous members of the Israeli Defense Forces. While this is not the conclusion of the conflict in Gaza, it marks the commencement of its resolution. I have a straightforward message for the residents of Gaza: the conflict can be resolved promptly. "Hamas can end the situation by disarming and releasing our hostages. The Israel Defence Forces announced that Sinwar, alongside two other militants, have been neutralized by Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu disclosed that Hamas is currently detaining 101 hostages in Gaza, hailing from 23 different countries, which includes Israel." Israel is devoted to using all available resources to ensure the safe return of all individuals. The Israeli Prime Minister stated, "Israel will ensure the security of individuals who release our hostages."

Issuing a strong caution to the captors of Israeli hostages, the Israeli Prime Minister pledged that Israel will actively pursue and prosecute them.

Israel's military declared the elimination of Hezbollah leader Jalal Mustafa Hariri in the Qana area

An official statement from Israel's military declared the elimination of Hezbollah leader Jalal Mustafa Hariri in the Qana area.

The health ministry, as cited by the ANI news agency, reported three fatalities due to Israeli shelling in the Tayr Debba region near Tyre.

Hezbollah's primary stronghold in Beirut's southern neighborhoods was also subject to Israeli airstrikes, with additional attacks reported in Lebanon's southern region and the Bekaa area in the east.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for a third rocket assault on the northern Israeli town of Safed within a 24-hour span.

The group announced the destruction of an Israeli tank near the Lebanese border using a guided missile following clashes with soldiers engaging in incursions in the vicinity.

The Israeli military reported approximately 90 Hezbollah projectiles breaching into Israel on Wednesday.

Israel intensified its bombing campaigns in late September and eventually deployed ground troops across the Lebanese border by the end of the month.

Israeli Military Reports Tracking and Eliminating Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar in Gaza

Israeli Military Reports Tracking and Eliminating Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar in Gaza

Israel considers the death of Sinwar, aged 61, a significant blow to Hamas following the group's attacks on October 7, 2023.

According to the Israeli military, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in a firefight in southern Gaza as he attempted to evade detection by moving from house to house.

In an official statement, the Israeli military confirmed that after a year-long pursuit, on October 16, 2024, IDF soldiers from the Southern Command successfully eliminated Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the Hamas terrorist organization in southern Gaza.

The IDF and ISA (Shin Bet internal security agency) carried out numerous operations in the area over the past year to restrict Sinwar's movement, culminating in his elimination by IDF soldiers from the 828th Brigade during a recent operation that also led to the elimination of three other terrorists. Following the body identification process, it has been verified that Yahya Sinwar has been terminated.

In a subsequent announcement, military representative Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari disclosed that Sinwar was eliminated upon detection alongside two other combatants in Rafah district of the region.

Yahya Sinwar: The Mastermind Behind Hamas's October 7 'Big Project' and the Notorious Figure from Khan Younis.

Shin Bet chief Ronen bar (L) and IDF chief Herzi Halevi hold a situational assessment on October 17, 2024. (IDF)

The IDF has released a photo showing security chiefs meeting following news of Sinwar's elimination. Speculation is circulating regarding the death of Yahya Sinwar, the alleged mastermind behind the Hamas massacre on October 7.

Referred to as the "Butcher of Khan Younis," Sinwar was known for his involvement in interrogating and executing individuals perceived as Palestinian informants and violators of Islamic norms during his time as head of Hamas' internal security service.

He spent more than twenty years in an Israeli prison for his role in the killing of two Israeli soldiers. He was freed in 2011 in connection with the Gilad Shalit agreement.

More updates from today's Liveblog:

Families of hostages urge government to use Sinwar's reported death as an opportunity to finalize a deal urgently.

Mother of hostage appeals to Prime Minister to present a plan for hostage agreement to halt conflict following Sinwar's probable death.

US provides protected status to certain Lebanese citizens during conflict, according to DHS.

Nayab Saini has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana

Nayab Saini has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana, with the presence of the Prime Minister and key NDA allies at the ceremony. At 54 years old, Saini is serving his second term in this role, solidifying the BJP's unprecedented third consecutive term in office in the state. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Parade Ground near Chandigarh, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several BJP leaders and 18 Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states in attendance.

This event, held just prior to key assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, is viewed as a demonstration of the party's strength. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya officiated the administration of the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Saini, who assumed the role of chief minister in March, succeeding former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar. In addition to Mr. Saini, BJP leaders Anil Vij, Krishan Lal Panwar, and Rao Narbir Singh were sworn into office. Mr. Saini has been involved in politics for almost three decades. Born in 1970, he commenced his political career under the guidance of Mr. Khattar.

Mr. Saini was elected as an MLA from Naraingarh in 2014, and subsequently appointed to the state Cabinet in 2016. His ascension to fame occurred while serving as a Member of Parliament representing Kurukshetra, a position he secured in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by defeating Nirmal Singh of the Congress party by a substantial margin. Prior to his inauguration, Mr. Saini engaged in a series of religious visits, paying homage at Valmiki Bhawan, a nearby gurdwara, and the Mansa Devi temple in Panchkula.

The BJP succeeded in securing a third consecutive term in Haryana, against all expectations. During the October 5th state assembly elections, the BJP secured an exceptional victory by winning 48 out of the 90 seats. The Congress, the main opposition party, secured 37 seats in the election, whereas smaller regional parties such as the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did not achieve notable success. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), formerly a dominant political entity, now holds only two seats.

For the first time, the United States deployed advanced B-2 Stealth Bombers in Yemen against the Houthis

For the first time, the United States deployed advanced B-2 Stealth Bombers in Yemen against the Houthis. The B-2 Spirit bomber, renowned for its stealth features and high payload capacity, can deliver a larger amount of ordnance than fighter jets. These airstrikes, conducted on Wednesday evening, aimed at hitting crucial underground weapons storage sites under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. The B-2 Spirit stealth bombers conducted strikes against Houthi targets, representing the inaugural deployment of these sophisticated aircraft in the Yemen conflict by the US.

The US Department of Defense verified that five Houthi weapons storage facilities, concealed deeply underground, were targeted during the operation. As per US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the facilities served as storage for advanced conventional weapons utilized by the Houthis to pose a threat to civilian and military vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Deployment Of B-2 Bombers

The B-2 Spirit bomber, renowned for its stealth capabilities and large payload, has the capacity to deliver a significantly higher amount of ordnance in comparison to fighter jets. The B-2 provides the US military with a unique capacity to target valuable high-value assets that are heavily fortified or expertly concealed. Mr. Austin clarified that the strikes were authorized under the directive of President Joe Biden. "This represented a distinct illustration of the United States' capability to pinpoint facilities that our enemies aim to shield from attack, regardless of how deeply concealed or fortified," expressed Mr. Austin.

Growing Regional Tensions

The strikes' timing coincides with escalating tensions in the Middle East, as US allies, notably Israel, confront persistent menaces from Iran and its diverse regional surrogates. The Houthis, based in Yemen, have continuously carried out assaults on both commercial shipping and military vessels, causing disruptions to a major global maritime trade pathway. Lately, there has been a rise in attacks carried out by the group, including the use of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, targeting US Navy ships and international vessels.

The Houthis' actions in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, where they have targeted ships using weapons from underground storage sites, have sparked concerns about the safety of major trade routes and the risk of environmental disasters. In August, there was an incident involving a Greek-flagged vessel that was attacked, resulting in an oil spill and causing significant environmental apprehensions. In September, the Houthis intensified their efforts by launching around twenty-four ballistic and cruise missiles, in addition to drones, directed at three US Navy destroyers. While none of the missiles successfully hit their intended targets, the attacks did lead to heightened military engagement by US forces in the area. Houthi Attacks Linked to Regional Conflicts

The Houthis, supported by Iran, have portrayed their actions as part of a larger alliance with organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah, which are currently involved in tensions with Israel. After a missile strike in September targeted deep within Israel, the Houthis have publicly declared their backing for these groups. Despite the missile breaking apart in the air and resulting in no injuries, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cautioned that the Houthis would face severe consequences for their actions. Israeli airstrikes retaliated by targeting Houthi positions in Yemen following the incident.
