Former bureaucrats Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Gyanesh Kumar have been selected as the new election commissioners by a panel chaired by PM Modi.

 


Former bureaucrats Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Gyanesh Kumar have been selected as the new election commissioners by a committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The committee held a meeting to elect directors as the two posts fell vacant following the resignation of Anup Chandra Pandey in February and Arun Goel last week. According to Congress leader Adeel Chowdhury, who is part of the

committee, six names have been submitted to the committee by him for selection of two election commissioners. The names included Utpal Kumar Singh, Pradeep Kumar Tripathi, Gyanesh Kumar, Indevar Pandey, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Sudhir Kumar Gangadhar Rahate.

Mr. Adeel said it was not clear how these six names were shortlisted from a list of over 200 candidates.

Who is Sukhbir Singh Sandhu?

Sukhbir Singh Sandhu is an IAS officer he was born in 1963 and retired in 1998. He was the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand. Mr. Sandhu also previously served as Secretary, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Ministry of Higher Education, and Chairman, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Sandhu completed his MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar and Guru of Amritsar.He also completed his Master's degree in History from Nanakdev University. He also reportedly has a law degree.
