Farmers Protest LIVE: Multiple gates at 8 stations of Delhi Metro shut
Farmers, mostly from Punjab and Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, started the 'Chalo Delhi' march, which they do not yet know for sure, after their meetings with the government. On March eve, farmer leaders from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh met central ministers Piyush Goyal and Arjun Munda for the second meeting, which lasted five hours. Tuesday's protests are expected to lead to deadlock in the National Capital Region of Delhi.
Union Agriculture Minister Munda said after the meeting that an agreement was reached on most issues related to farmers. However, farmers claimed that they will march on Tuesday and this will lead to the closure of some state borders in Delhi.
Samyukta Kisan Morcha (political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha will march on Tuesday to force the Center to accept their demands, including legislation to ensure minimum wage (MSP) for crops.
The main reason for the farmers' protest is the legal protection of MSP. In addition, farmers are also demanding implementation of Swaminathan Committee recommendations and waiver of farm debt.
