Businessman and BJP leader Gopal Khemka Shot Dead Outside Home in Patna

On Friday night, Gopal Khemka, a prominent businessman and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member from Bihar, was fatally shot in front of his house in Patna.

Officials reported that the shooting occurred near the 'Panache' Hotel in the vicinity of the Gandhi Maidan police station while Mr. Khemka was heading home. The 'Twin Tower' community, where he resided, is located next to the hotel. The assailant shot him and then quickly escaped.

Authorities confirmed that Mr. Khemka succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The police have collected a bullet and a shell casing from the site of the incident.

"On the evening of July 4, at approximately 11 PM, we received a report from the Gandhi Maidan South area regarding the shooting of businessman Gopal Khemka. Upon receiving this information, the police arrived at both the hospital and the crime scene. The location has been secured, and an investigation is currently in progress. We are reviewing CCTV footage, and further steps will be taken," stated City SP Central, Diksha. 

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and more information is pending.

Professionally, Mr. Khemka was engaged in business activities.

Three years prior, his son, Gunjan Khemka, was killed.

Independent MP from Purnea, Pappu Yadav, also known as Rajesh Ranjan, hurried to the scene last night. He criticized the government led by Nitish Kumar in a post on X, asserting that "no one is secure in Bihar."

"Bihar has turned into a haven for criminals! Nitish ji, have mercy on Bihar," he remarked.

Mr. Yadav argued that if the government had not aligned with criminals during the time of Mr. Khemka's son's murder and had instead taken decisive action, Mr. Khemka would likely still be alive today.
