Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi get 10-year jail term in cipher case
According to Pakistani media, PTI founder Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi were sentenced to 10 years in prison in the Cipher case.
A court in Pakistan has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan to 10 years in prison after finding that he violated the country's Secrets Act by leaking information while in power.
Special Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain said Imran Khan's lawyer Shoaib Shaheen announced the verdict on Tuesday. He said former foreign minister Shah Mahmud Qureshi was also sentenced to the same 10-year prison sentence. Imran Khan may appeal to the high court.
The document discusses allegations that Imran Khan shared the content of secret phone calls sent by the country's ambassador to Washington to the Islamabad government. His party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were sentenced to 10 years in prison by a special court. He said the party would oppose the decision, calling it "misinformation".
