Vivek Ramaswamy Quits Presidential Race, Backs Trump After His Iowa Win
2024 US Presidential Election: Vivek Ramaswamy's election strategy was very similar to that of former President Donald Trump, both in tone and policy.
Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswami today announced his withdrawal from the 2024 US presidential race and announced his support for Donald Trump following a disastrous defeat in the Iowa Republican election.
Mr. Ramaswamy was relatively unknown in politics when he ran in February 2023, but his strong views on immigration and America First approach have helped him garner attention and support from Republican voters. His campaign strategy was very similar in tone and policy to former President Trump. Mr. Ramaswamy sought to tap into the conservative base that supported Mr. Trump's success in the last election.
That same night, Trump won Iowa, cementing his status as the front-runner for the Republican nomination. Mr. Ramaswamy, an Ohio native born to immigrant parents from Kerala, has emerged as an unexpected candidate in a Republican field still dominated by Mr. Trump's reputation.
However, in the final days before the Iowa caucuses, President Trump publicly called Ramaswamy a "fraud" on the social media platform TruthSocial and claimed it was an Indian vote. The tide turned against Mr. Ramaswamy. Americans were the spokesmen of the "other side."
