Over 80 Individuals Killed In Iran, Israel As Missiles Strike Middle East
New assaults were exchanged following the commencement of Operation "Rising Lion" by the Israeli military on Friday, targeting Iran's nuclear and military facilities.
On Sunday morning, Israel and Iran engaged in further attacks, with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stating they conducted an "extensive series of strikes" on the Iranian Defense Ministry's headquarters and a nuclear initiative.
According to the Israeli Defense Forces, they executed "an extensive series of strikes on targets in Tehran connected to the nuclear weapons initiative of the Iranian regime." This included the headquarters of the Iranian Ministry of Defense and the main site of the SPND nuclear project, as mentioned in a post on X.
The locations also comprised the area where Iran allegedly "concealed its nuclear archive," the IDF asserted.
Iran indicated that the Shahran oil depot in Tehran was targeted during an Israeli assault. Additionally, the Israeli military attacked an oil refinery located near Tehran. Iran reportedly also limited operations at the South Pars field, the largest gas field globally, after an Israeli attack led to a fire there on Saturday.
Air raid sirens were activated in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv following a new wave of Iranian attacks on Israeli urban centers. Reports indicate that at least seven people lost their lives, including a boy aged 10 and a woman in her twenties. In total, at least nine individuals in Israel have died, and over 300 others have been injured since Iran began its reprisals last Friday.
The Revolutionary Guards of Iran claimed that missiles and drones from Iran targeted Israel's energy infrastructure and facilities responsible for producing fighter jet fuel.
These recent assaults were a response to the Israeli military's initiation of Operation "Rising Lion" on Friday, which struck at Iran's nuclear and military installations.
Israel reported that their attacks resulted in the deaths of high-ranking generals as well as senior scientists and professionals associated with Iran's nuclear program. Prior to the strikes on Sunday, Iran's ambassador to the United Nations stated that 78 individuals had died and more than 320 had been injured.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented that Operation "Rising Lion" was implemented to "mitigate the Iranian threat to Israel's very existence." He remarked, "This operation will persist for as long as necessary to eliminate this threat," on Friday.
On Saturday, Mr. Netanyahu noted that Israeli strikes might have delayed Iran's nuclear program by several years. "We will target every site and every objective connected to the Ayatollahs' regime, and what they have endured thus far is minimal compared to what they will face in the coming days," he warned in a video message.
A scheduled round of nuclear discussions between the US and Iran in Oman on Sunday was called off. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that the negotiations could not proceed while Iran was facing Israel's "barbarous" attacks. President Donald Trump urged Tehran on Friday to finalize an agreement with the US regarding its nuclear program, stating that "Iran must make a deal before there is nothing left."
