US Intelligence Chief's Statement on the Crisis in Bangladesh
Tulsi Gabbard, the head of US Intelligence, remarked, "The long-standing and regrettable mistreatment, killing, and oppression of religious minorities such as Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, and others has raised significant alarms for the US government and President Trump along with his administration."
During a discussion with NDTV World today regarding the plight of religious minorities, Gabbard expressed the US's deep concern regarding the circumstances in Bangladesh. She noted that the Trump administration is dedicated to eradicating "Islamist terrorism" on a global scale.
In a special dialogue with NDTV World, the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, mentioned, "The chronic and unfortunate targeted violence against religious minorities like Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, among others, has drawn significant attention from the US government and President Trump’s team."
She elaborated that Donald Trump’s new Cabinet is initiating communications with the interim government of Bangladesh. "Discussions have just commenced between the new Cabinet under President Trump and the Government of Bangladesh, and this continues to be a critical area of concern," she stated, referencing the growth of Islamic extremism and terrorism in Bangladesh.
In her comments, she addressed the concept of an "Islamic Caliphate" and how extremist factions and terrorist organizations worldwide strive for this goal. "The menace posed by Islamist terrorist groups and the global collaboration of various terror organizations originates from the same beliefs and aims – which is to establish control through an Islamist Caliphate,” she articulated, noting that "This evidently jeopardizes individuals of any faith other than the one they deem acceptable, and they choose to pursue their objectives through terror and extreme violence."
Ms. Gabbard further asserted that Donald Trump is resolved to recognize and eliminate such ideologies and to curb the ascendance of what he describes as “radical Islamic terrorism.”
"President Trump is dedicated to uncovering the ideology fueling Islamist terrorism and working to dismantle this belief system and their capacity to inflict terror on others," Ms. Gabbard stated.
In addition to the atrocities and religious discrimination occurring in Bangladesh, its increasing collaboration with Pakistan's infamous ISI has emerged as a significant worry in recent months.
Last month, Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi expressed his apprehensions regarding the presence of ISI agents in Bangladeshi territories near India's borders, particularly the Siliguri corridor. In statements to the ANI news agency, General Dwivedi emphasized the need to ensure that anti-India forces cannot exploit that region to launch terrorist activities against India.
