Why did Netanyahu authorize airstrikes in Gaza, despite a truce with Hamas? Was the US informed by Israel? 

According to medical sources, at least 200 Palestinians, including many minors, lost their lives as Israel initiated a series of airstrikes throughout the Gaza Strip, reported Reuters. The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, stated that Israel had informed the Donald Trump administration prior to executing “extensive strikes” in Gaza. Medical personnel reported that early Tuesday, Israel's airstrike campaign resulted in the deaths of at least 200 Palestinians, among them numerous children.

Israel declared that it targeted numerous Hamas sites in what was described as its most severe offensive in the area since a truce commenced in January. 

“The Israelis consulted with the Trump administration and the White House regarding their actions in Gaza last night – and President Trump has made it clear, those who aim to instill terror, not only in Israel but also against the United States, will face consequences. All hell will break loose,” Leavitt shared with Fox News during an interview. 

“All terrorist groups in the Middle East… both Iranian-backed proxies and Iran itself should take President Trump’s words seriously when he asserts that he will not hesitate to defend law-abiding citizens,” Leavitt continued. 

Unexpected strike 

The abrupt strike during the night disrupted a span of relative peace and heightened fears of a complete re-escalation in a 17-month conflict that has resulted in the deaths of more than 48,000 Palestinians and significant devastation throughout Gaza. Additionally, it brought up concerns regarding the status of approximately two dozen Israeli captives believed to be held alive by Hamas.
