Zelenskyy consents to a 30-day temporary ceasefire with Putin following a discussion with Trump
Following mediation by Donald Trump, Ukraine and Russia have reached a preliminary agreement on a restricted ceasefire, yet disagreements persist regarding the protection of certain infrastructures. Discussions in Saudi Arabia will aim to clarify the details of the agreement.
A provisional arrangement to lessen the ongoing conflict was made after Russian President Vladimir Putin declined Trump’s request for a full 30-day ceasefire. The complexity of achieving an agreement that avoids targeting each other’s energy infrastructures underscores the obstacles Trump will face in his promise to swiftly resolve the conflict.
Following an approximately hour-long conversation with Trump on Wednesday, which both leaders described as productive, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed the media that “technical” discussions scheduled in Saudi Arabia this weekend will focus on determining which types of infrastructure will be safeguarded under the ceasefire.
