Four members of a family from Rajasthan’s Jaipur, including a two-year-old boy, and two cousins from Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur district were among the nine persons who died in a terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Sunday evening.
The members of the family from Chomu near Jaipur who died were identified as Pooja Saini, 30, her two-year-old son Levansh, Pooja’s paternal uncle Rajendra Saini, 44, and Rajendra’s wife Mamta, 40.
The two from UP’s Balrampur district who died were identified as Ruby Verma (22) and her maternal cousin Anurag Verma (16), a class 7 student. An Uttar Pradesh Police official said one more person from the state is likely to have died in the incident but the victim’s identity could not be verified.
Talking to media, Pooja Saini’s father Om Prakash Saini, 53, said, “Rajendra and Mamta have three children — Varsha, 22, Rahul, 19 and Lucky, 17. The three are yet to be informed that their parents are no longer alive. We have informed them that their parents are undergoing treatment."
Five family members, including Pooja's husband Pawan, had left Jaipur for Vaishno Devi on June 6, Saini said. "We learned from relatives at 9.15 pm on Sunday that they had been in the bus that was attacked. Pawan was injured and has been discharged from hospital," Saini said.
Chom Circle Officer Ashok Chauhan said he reached the relatives' house after getting information that four of the dead were from the area. "Post-mortem examination of the deceased will be conducted and the body will be taken to Jaipur."
