Five killed in Israeli rocket attack in northeast Lebanon near Syrian border 4,444 4,444 At least five people have been killed in an Israeli rocket attack on a tanker convoy in the northeastern Lebanese district of Hermel, near the Arab-Syrian border.
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said "three Hezbollah members were killed in nine Israeli rocket attacks on a tanker convoy and buildings late on Monday" in the village of Hosh al-Sayyid Ali in the same district.
The Britain-based Observatory added that two more people were killed in the attack.
Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP that five more people were wounded in the attack and two were missing.
Syrian air defenses were activated to repel the attack, the Observatory said. The incident came just hours after Hezbollah said in a statement that it had used "appropriate weapons" to attack forces gathering at Kibbutz Manara in the Upper Galilee region, killing and wounding several Israeli soldiers. The kibbutz borders Lebanon and overlooks the Hula Valley.
The statement continued that the bullets hit their intended targets precisely.
Lebanese resistance fighters also attacked Israeli soldiers stationed in buildings in the Yaron settlement in the western Galilee, leaving casualties.
Hezbollah stressed that the two operations were carried out in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, in support of the brave and heroic Palestinian resistance groups, and in retaliation for the attacks of Israel's enemies on areas in southern Lebanon, especially the villages of Hura and the city of Shebaa.
Since then, Israeli forces have also attacked Lebanese territory, and Hezbollah has launched almost daily retaliatory attacks in support of the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip.
Hezbollah vowed to continue its retaliatory attacks as long as the Tel Aviv regime continues its attacks on Gaza.
At least 37,124 Palestinians have since been killed in the besieged areas, the majority of them women and children, according to local health officials, and a further 84,712 have been wounded.
More than eight months after the Israeli massacre began, much of the Gaza Strip lies in ruins and supplies of food, clean water and medicine are under a crippling blockade.
