The extradition of Tahawwur Rana from the United States has led to significant acclaim for PM Modi, as individuals on social media applaud his determination in the quest for justice. 

A tweet from Prime Minister Narendra Modi dating back 14 years has become popular online after the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, an important suspect in the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, who was returned to Delhi on Thursday evening. 

This tweet, which emerged from 2011 when Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, criticized the then Congress-led UPA administration for what he described as a “serious foreign policy failure” after a US court found Rana not directly connected to the Mumbai attacks that resulted in 166 fatalities. 

"US decision to clear Tahawwur Rana of charges related to the Mumbai attack disrespects India's sovereignty and signifies a significant foreign policy failure," PM Modi had stated on X, formerly known as Twitter. With Rana now under Indian law enforcement's authority, social media has been filled with commendations for PM Modi’s tenacity. Numerous users on X have taken to the platform to express "Modi hai toh mumkin hai (If there's Modi, it's possible)." 

“One who stands by his words. Leader of my heart,” commented one user, while another remarked, “You made it happen, sir!! Well done and thank you!” 

Tahawwur Rana's extradition 

Tahawwur Rana, a Pakistani-origin citizen of Canada, arrived in Delhi on Thursday following an extended legal dispute in the US, where he contested extradition based on health and legal issues. His return to India represents a significant development in the country’s effort to seek justice for the attacks of 2008. 

Upon his landing, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) officially detained Rana and obtained an 18-day custody order from a special court in Delhi. Authorities claim he played a vital role in assisting with the 26/11 conspiracy, particularly in aiding co-defendant David Coleman Headley in carrying out reconnaissance of possible targets in Mumbai.
