Six construction workers and a doctor lost their lives in a "dastardly" terror incident in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. The individuals involved in a violent attack targeted a camp where employees of a private company were located, engaged in construction activities for a tunnel in the Gund area. The region is currently under strict control by military and law enforcement personnel as efforts are being made to apprehend the assailants. The incident took place at a site where both local and non-local individuals were present, with at least two perpetrators firing weapons. The recently appointed Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, denounced the assault as a despicable and cowardly act against non-local workers. Mr. Abdullah stated that the individuals were involved in a significant infrastructure project within the region. Two individuals have been deceased as a result of the militant assault, with an additional 2-3 individuals sustaining injuries. "I strongly denounce the assault on unarmed civilians and offer my sympathies to the families of the victims. Union minister Nitin Gadkari has decried the appalling act of terrorism." In a statement shared on X, the minister referred to the workers as "innocent laborers" involved in a crucial infrastructure endeavor. "I firmly denounce the dreadful terrorist attack on innocent laborers in Gagangir, Sonamarg, Jammu & Kashmir, who were involved in a crucial infrastructure project," stated Mr. Gadkari in his post.
"Actions such as the murder of innocent civilians and the promotion of violence and terror in the civilian population constitute crimes against humanity" -his post continued. "The entire nation stands in solidarity against this," stated Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi.
On the previous Friday, the corpse of a laborer from Bihar was discovered in Shopian district of the Union Territory with gunshot wounds.
