The recent attack in Jammu and Kashmir took intelligence agencies by surprise. Sources have revealed that The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, has admitted to carrying out the attack.

Central intelligence agencies were unaware of the potential for terrorists to target the Z-Morh tunnel construction site in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district, marking the first attack on a key infrastructure project in the region.

Sources indicate that The Resistance Front (TRF), acting as a proxy for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has taken credit for the incident, resulting in the deaths of six construction workers and a doctor. A senior intelligence official described the attack as a carefully planned strike against a significant project in India. A group like TRF would not have access to sensitive information about a project of this significance without assistance from a government agency within J&K.

The National Investigation Agency will examine these matters as part of its broader investigation into potential conspiracies. The officer acknowledged the lack of intelligence regarding the specific attack. Another officer highlighted the strategic importance of the Z-Morh tunnel, a 6.4 km passage on the Srinagar-Leh highway connecting Gagangeer to Sonmarg.

This tunnel will provide year-round access to Sonmarg, as well as connectivity to Ladakh, facilitating the movement of defense personnel and equipment in border regions.
