Israel conducted its first attack on the Christian-majority town of Aitou in Lebanon during the ongoing Gaza war, killing at least 21 individuals in an airstrike in the northern region. The military offensive has primarily targeted areas in the south, Bekaa Valley, and suburbs of Beirut. The attack on Monday targeted a house in Aitou, which had been rented to displaced families, according to Mayor Joseph Trad. According to the Ministry of Public Health, at least eight individuals sustained injuries.
At the scene of the incident, rescue workers sifted through debris, observing burnt vehicles and trees scattered on the ground.
This marked the initial assault on the Christian-majority region by Israel in a year of conflict.
