Israeli army says there is growing evidence that Hamas leader Deif was killed

The Israeli army said on Friday that there is growing evidence that Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif was killed in a Gaza attack a week ago.

Israeli army spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Hagari said at a press conference that "increasing indications point to the success of the elimination of (Mohammed) Deif."

Israel had already announced that Hamas' Khan Younis Brigade commander Rafa Salama was killed in the July 13 attack, adding that the two Hamas leaders "were sitting next to each other at the time of the attack."

Israel has accused the two of being the "masterminds" of Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7.

But Hamas officials offered no evidence and said that despite the attack, Deif, the commander of Hamas' military wing, had "proper and direct supervision" of the operation.

"Hamas is hiding Deif's fate, but we will find out and reveal what happened to him," Hagari said on Friday.

At least 90 Palestinians were killed in Saturday's Khan Younis airstrike, according to Gaza Strip health officials.
